Disney World Theme Park Reopening Tomorrow After Surprise All-Guest Closure
A noticeable change in Central Florida’s winter conditions prompted an operational adjustment at Walt Disney World Resort during one of the most heavily traveled weeks of the year. As temperatures dropped following the Christmas holiday period, Disney confirmed that Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park would remain fully closed for several days, extending through the New Year.

Rather than operating with modified hours or limited access, Typhoon Lagoon paused operations entirely as colder air settled across the region. The decision aligned with shifting forecasts showing temperatures falling well below typical seasonal norms.
Local outlet FOX 35 Orlando outlined the scope of the weather system earlier in the week. “A massive rush of cold air will cross Florida on Tuesday, causing morning and evening low temperatures to fall into the 30s and 40s for much of Orlando and Central Florida,” the station reported.
The closure followed a pattern seen throughout the fall and early winter months. Typhoon Lagoon experienced several weather-related shutdowns in recent months, including a closure over Thanksgiving weekend. At the same time, Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park has remained unavailable due to Disney’s seasonal operating schedule, leaving Typhoon Lagoon as the only water park impacted by weather rather than pre-planned downtime.

As the colder temperatures continued, additional advisories were shared for guests spending time at Central Florida theme parks. Kenny the Pirate cited guidance from weather officials, stating, “Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.” The update also noted that a Cold Weather Advisory was issued for Wednesday, December 31, 2025, covering Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort.
With Typhoon Lagoon closed, guests shifted plans toward the resort’s four theme parks: Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. These parks were already operating at elevated attendance levels. Lightning Lane selections continued to sell out throughout the day, and the added concentration of visitors contributed to longer waits.
On New Year’s Eve, wait times across the resort climbed significantly. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT approached a four-hour wait during peak periods.

According to the official Walt Disney World Resort website, Typhoon Lagoon is scheduled to reopen on January 2, 2026, with operating hours listed from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Click Orlando reported improving conditions heading into the end of the week. “Thursday afternoon will give way to a more pleasant set up with high temperatures getting into the mid 60s,” the outlet shared, adding that lower wind speeds and warmer readings were expected. The report continued, “Friday gets even better, with overnight lows hopefully avoiding the freezing mark altogether and the potential for some neighborhoods to see 70 degrees.”
While cold fronts are not unusual during Florida winters, they can lead to unexpected changes for vacation plans. Staying flexible and monitoring weather updates remains an important part of visiting Walt Disney World during this time of year.
