Universal will soon say goodbye to one of its remaining DreamWorks-era staples on an indefinite basis.
Years after the latest Shrek film hit theaters, everyone’s favorite ogre is still prominent in Universal’s theme parks. Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood may have ditched Shrek 4-D, but Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey can still be found in DreamWorks Land at Universal Studios Florida.

Meanwhile, Universal Studios Singapore is home to an entire Shrek land, Far Far Away. Inspired by Shrek 2, this includes Shrek 4-D and two family coasters: Enchanted Airways and Puss in Boots’ Giant Journey.
The only other place where guests can enjoy Shrek 4-D is Universal Studios Japan. However, the Osaka theme park has confirmed that the show is set to disappear from its roster in the coming months.
Universal Confirms Indefinite Closure of Shrek’s 4-D Adventure
Universal Studios Japan has updated its refurbishment calendar to show that Shrek’s 4-D Adventure — along with Sesame Street 4-D Movie Magic, which shares the same theater — will close beginning January 9, 2026.

Universal has not provided a reopening date. The closure is listed as “indefinite,” mirroring previous multi-year shutterings that followed the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shrek’s 4-D Adventure and Sesame Street 4-D Movie Magic previously spent three years offline before slowly returning to operation, making this new pause another setback for fans hoping the shows would remain.
Notably, Shrek’s 4-D Adventure only reopened from its last closure on November 19 after being closed since January 23, 2025.
Several other attractions remain unavailable across the park right now. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is off limits to guests from November 7 to December 4. However, the Hogwarts Castle Walk – which allows guests to walk through the Hogwarts area of the queue without boarding the attraction – is still available during this period.

Meanwhile, the Universal Monsters Live: Rock and Roll Show is closed from November 4 through December 1, Moppy’s Balloon Trip is closed from November 16 to November 22, and Elmo’s Go-Go Skateboard is closed between November 26 and December 17.
Ernie’s Rubber Duckie Race and Sesame’s Big Drive have remained closed since June 2020.
Space Fantasy – The Ride has also cycled through repeated closures in recent years, thanks to a string of various overlays. The attraction last operated in its standard form in June and is set to premiere yet another overlay – Space Fantasy – The Ride: CLUB ZEDD REMIX – January 30 through August 17, 2026.

Launched in collaboration with DJ Zedd, this will see guests “step inside where powerful music and light take you to spectacular outer space!”
Universal Studios Japan has not announced what will replace Shrek 4-D or whether the theater will be used for rotating seasonal content tied to its expanding anime catalog.
