Paperwork Confirms Surprise Future For Disney World’s Beloved ‘Toy Story’ Ride
Disney has filed a new Notice of Commencement for Toy Story Mania at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Despite opening 17 years ago, Toy Story Mania remains one of the most popular attractions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The interactive 4D ride takes guests through a series of carnival-style games hosted by Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, Bo Peep, and other members of the Toy Story gang, combining fun visuals with competitive gameplay.
Its appeal spans all ages, making it a consistent crowd-pleaser since its debut in 2008. Back in 2018, the ride technically relocated to a new home after shifting from Pixar Place to Toy Story Land (despite not actually moving an inch), where it competes with Slinky Dog Dash for some of the park’s longest lines.
Mysterious New Work Confirmed For Toy Story Mania
The recent Notice of Commencement confirms that Disney has some kind of plans in the works for the attraction.
The permit, filed with Orange County, hints at fresh activity behind the scenes. It lists the scope of work simply as “General Construction” and is set to expire on September 26, 2025. The contractor is Adena Corporation, a familiar name for Disney fans with a history of working on multiple Walt Disney World projects.
The good news is that it doesn’t seem like anything that will impact the ride’s story or theming, as is the case for Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters at Tokyo Disneyland. The permit lists Disney’s Facilities Asset Management (FAM) division rather than Walt Disney Imagineering, which is the party that would typically deal with any creative updates.
Instead, it’s likely that the attraction will receive work on its infrastructure or other low-level maintenance. This does, of course, mean that the ride is likely to close at some point in the near future, although Disney has yet to schedule a refurbishment.
Other Changes at Hollywood Studios
In the grand scheme of things, this is just one minor update in a sea of changes heading to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The theme park – once known as Disney-MGM Studios – will soon close Muppet*Vision 3D ahead of plans to replace the attraction and its surrounding area with a Monsters, Inc. (2001) land. This will include a roller coaster themed to the iconic doors system seen in the film, plus a show that looks remarkably like Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor in the concept art.
Meanwhile, The Muppets are finding a new home at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, although Disney hasn’t unveiled a timeframe for this plan just yet.
What changes would you like to see at Disney’s Hollywood Studios?
Do not close Toy story until after November 5. Only reason I’m coming to Hollywood studios is to ride Toy Story over and over again !!
