The original post was titled “Bus Smoking on West Osceola Parkway Exit Ramp off to Buena Vista Drive” and it opened with practical guidance for anyone driving in the area.
“Be careful getting off of Osceola Parkway if you’re trying to get to Buena Vista Drive and the All Star Resorts or McDonald’s. The right lane was clear and you can turn left and right. I was able to get through it on my way back from my day itinerary on I-Drive.”
Then came the update everyone wanted: “Everybody was out of the bus, so I think everyone got out safely and uninjured.”
The situation escalated before it resolved. A second update: “That exit’s now closed. Plan accordingly and get on Buena Vista Drive if you’re going towards All Star Resorts, McDonald’s, or Blizzard Beach. Or if you’re on that route, go u-turn past the Animal Kingdom Toll Plaza. The Osceola Parkway exit to Buena Vista Drive is how a significant portion of guests in the Value Resort corridor access the main Disney World road network. The All-Star Movies, Music, and Sports resorts feed into this area constantly. Guests arriving from I-4 or I-Drive use it. Families making a run to the off-property McDonald’s or services along that strip use it.
When that exit closes, even temporarily, it creates confusion for guests who are either unfamiliar with the roads or have GPS routing that has not accounted for the closure. The poster’s suggested alternatives, Buena Vista Drive directly or a turnaround past the Animal Kingdom Toll Plaza, are solid options but only if you know they exist. Finding that out while already committed to a lane with traffic backing up behind you is not the ideal situation.
The good news is the closure lasted two hours. For a mechanical incident on a busy resort road, that is a fast turnaround.

Disney’s bus operation is massive. We are talking about one of the largest privately operated transit systems in the country, running continuous service from before the parks open until well after they close, across a property of roughly 25,000 acres. The vehicles absorb an extraordinary amount of use. Maintenance is aggressive by necessity. Mechanical issues happen because at that scale and frequency, some things are going to go wrong occasionally.
The smoking visible in the Reddit photo is consistent with a mechanical or engine issue. The bus was pulled over, passengers evacuated, exit temporarily closed, road cleared. The response was managed and proportionate. Nobody was describing a dramatic emergency on the thread. It was an incident that was handled correctly, documented in real time, and resolved in two hours.
The outcome is what matters: everyone off the bus, everyone safe.
This Summer Has Had Some Moments at Walt Disney World
Keeping this in perspective, this bus incident follows a few other notable situations on property this summer. Most recently, a kitchen fire at Bourbon Steak inside the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel on June 25 prompted a lobby evacuation after smoke pushed through the building’s ventilation system. The resort confirmed the damage was limited to the restaurant kitchen with no harm to the hotel, but Bourbon Steak has been closed since and the reservation system is currently pointing toward September 16 as the earliest return date.
Before that, a lightning strike on July 5 hit the Buena Vista Place Apartments adjacent to Magic Kingdom’s cast parking lot, displacing approximately 20 families who are still working through the timeline for returning home.
Three different incidents. Three different parts of the property and its surroundings. None of them connected operationally. All of them documented by guests and the community in real time because that is how information moves now.
The bus situation is the most minor of the three. A mechanical issue, a two-hour road closure, a safe evacuation, and a clear road by the time someone finished their Port Orleans beignets.
If the All-Star Corridor Is Part of Your Disney Trip
If you are staying at or driving to the All-Star Resorts, Blizzard Beach, or the southern end of the Disney Springs approach this summer, here is what is useful to know. The Osceola Parkway exit to Buena Vista Drive is the most direct routing from that direction. When it is closed or congested, Buena Vista Drive accessed from further east is the alternative. The Animal Kingdom Toll Plaza turnaround is the option if you have already committed to the ramp and need to reverse course.
None of this is complicated once you know it. It only becomes a problem when you are encountering the roads for the first time while traffic is not moving and GPS is not updating fast enough to help.
The road is clear now. Everything is back to normal. And somewhere out there, a Port Orleans beignet order made one guest’s afternoon considerably better while the exit was being cleared.
