Batman Is Officially Getting a ‘Captain Marvel’ Makeover in 2025
DC and Marvel fans, gear up, because a new twist on Batman is on the horizon! During an April 12 panel at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2), writer Kyle Higgins shared that Batman will be officially stepping into an exciting new storyline for 2025. But this isn’t just any Batman story – it’s one that will bring an artist behind “Captain Marvel” to the world of the Dark Knight.
The announcement came during the “Kyle Higgins Presents: Radiant Black, The Massive-Verse and More!” panel, where Higgins unveiled details about “Immortal Legend Batman,” a limited six-issue DC Elseworlds series that’s sure to excite fans.
“Certain projects are the perfect storm of timing, idea and creative team,” Higgins said.
The story, set centuries in the future, will explore a Batman unlike any we’ve seen before, blending classic comic book elements with fresh new concepts. The series is written by Mat Groom (“Radiant Black,” “Inferno Girl Red”) with art by Erica D’Urso (“Captain Marvel,” “Inferno Girl Red”) and Dan Mora (“Superman,” “Justice League Unlimited,” “Batman/Superman: World’s Finest”), with colorist Igor Monti and letterer Becca Carey.
“Batman is fiction’s greatest hero, and we wanted to find a way to take everything that’s so great about him—his immense determination, resilience and selflessness—and explore it in a totally new way,” Groom said. “So, we’re taking Batman to the stars, turning him into a wandering hero, exploring humanity’s final frontier… and searching out deadly threats he inadvertently released upon the galactic community.”
The story draws inspiration from various genres, including sci-fi epics and Japanese tokusatsu superhero tales, mixing classic Western influences to create a truly unique narrative. Set in a future where humanity has expanded across the galaxy, the use of dark matter has caused a ripple effect, leading to the creation of terrifying creatures known as “Shadows.” Thankfully, Batman, Robin, and Nightwing have harnessed the same energy to become ”Immoral Legends!”
“Immortal Legend Batman” is available for preorder starting May 23, 2025, and will hit shelves on August 27.
