Disney has announced a brand-new Pirates of the Caribbean experience heading to one park 33 years after its predecessor.
Since debuting at Disneyland in 1967, Pirates of the Caribbean has become one of Disney’s most iconic and influential attractions. Originally conceived as a walk-through wax museum, the ride revolutionized theme park storytelling with its detailed sets, catchy music, and immersive boat ride format. Its success led to versions at Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Shanghai Disneyland—each with its own unique twists.
Magic Kingdom’s version is shorter, while Tokyo’s closely mirrors the original. Disneyland Paris expanded the story’s scope, while Shanghai Disneyland reimagined the entire experience with cutting-edge tech and a storyline inspired by the film franchise.

Disneyland Paris is set to introduce a permanent new treasure hunt inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Taking place in Adventure Isle – a subsection of Adventureland in Disneyland Park that features walkthrough caves and Captain Hook’s Pirate Ship – this will apparently feature characters from the ride, 33 years after it opened at the park.

Disney Embraces More Pirates in Parks
Since the legal battle between Johnny Depp (Captain Jack Sparrow) and his ex-wife Amber Heard – both of whom accused the other of domestic abuse – Disney has seemingly pressed pause on Pirates of the Caribbean on the big screen.
While there’s been talk of a new installment for years now, we’re yet to see one actually hit production. A report from Variety in December 2024 claimed that producer Jerry Bruckheimer was developing two separate scripts, one of which featured Johnny Depp. There have also been reports of a female-led spinoff, said to star Margot Robbie in the lead role.
In the meantime, Disney seems to have no problem leaning further into Pirates of the Caribbean in its parks. This year, another new addition inspired by the franchise will be added to Magic Kingdom Park in late 2025.
This will take the form of an immersive lounge. This is said to expand the lore of the classic dark ride, placing guests in the middle of their own Pirates of the Caribbean adventure. Disney claims that this new lounge will be a haven for “pirate-kind, big and small.” One detail confirmed for the lounge is the return of Barker Bird, who was removed from the attraction when it received its movie-inspired overlay in 2006.
Do you think Disney should add more Pirates of the Caribbean to its theme parks?
