Disney World Alerts Families: Mickey and Minnie Mouse No Longer at Park

For families planning a trip to Walt Disney World Resort this week, there’s an important update you’ll need to know about. Mickey and Minnie Mouse will not be available at their usual meet-and-greet location in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park from February 25-27, 2025.

The popular duo is temporarily missing from the park due to a scheduled refurbishment of the Adventurers Outpost, where fans have long gone to meet Mickey and Minnie in their safari attire. Walt Disney World Resort has made this information available on its official website, noting that the “Meet Favorite Disney Pals at Adventurers Outpost” location will be closed this week for routine maintenance.

A Temporary Change for Mickey and Minnie

While the Adventurers Outpost meet-and-greet will be unavailable during the scheduled closure, this is likely just part of Disney’s normal maintenance process, with minor repairs and paint touch-ups being made behind the scenes. The Discovery Island Sot has long been the home for guests wanting to meet Mickey and Minnie Mouse, set against a backdrop of the stunning Tree of Life and other Animal Kingdom icons.

Though the news may be disappointing to families who had planned to meet Mickey and Minnie Mouse at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, the closure is only temporary. Guests can still meet the iconic couple at other locations around Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The Controversial PhotoPass Boxes

When Adventurers Outpost first reopened following the pandemic closures, one aspect of the experience raised some concerns: the addition of automated PhotoPass boxes. Instead of using a live photographer to capture magical moments, these PhotoPass boxes automatically take pictures at set intervals. While some guests enjoy the convenience of this setup, it doesn’t quite capture the spontaneity and flexibility that a PhotoPass photographer can offer.

Despite the mixed feedback, PhotoPass boxes have become a fixture at other popular Disney meet-and-greets, including Meet Mickey Mouse in Town Square Theater at Magic Kingdom Park and Meet Olaf at Celebrity Spotlight at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. While not everyone loves the change, it’s remained a fixture at Walt Disney World Resort since 2019.

While the Adventurers Outpost is closed for a few days, Mickey and Minnie will likely return to their usual spot after the refurbishment. Though details about what exactly will be worked on during this closure haven’t been fully revealed, these short-term closures are typically used for routine maintenance. Expect everything to be up and running again when the meet-and-greet location reopens on February 28, 2025.
