Guests Pulled From 24-Year-Old Disney Coaster After Critical System Failure

A Disneyland Resort guest recently shared their unusual experience evacuating the Incredicoaster during a rainy day in Southern California. The 24-year-old roller coaster shut down unexpectedly, sending a wave of anxiety across Disney Park guests on board the ride and in line.

The Incredicoaster originally opened as California Screamin’ on February 8, 2001, alongside the rest of Disney California Adventure Park. In 2018, Walt Disney Imagineers gave the attraction its The Incredibles (2004) makeover as part of Paradise Pier’s transformation into Pixar Pier. It remains the only roller coaster at Disneyland Resort that goes upside down and one of the most popular rides at Disney California Adventure Park.

Last week, Redditor u/jeph62 shared a unique photo from one of the highest points on the Incredicoaster. Riders were evacuated after an unknown emergency alert forced Disney cast members to shut down the roller coaster:

“We were evacuated off the top of the fire tunnel yesterday during the rain storms,” the Disney Park guest wrote. “The view from there was one you don’t get to see very often and now we have an awesome story to add to our Disney trip!”

After the ride stopped, it only took about 30 minutes for guests to arrive safely back in Disney California Adventure Park. The Disney Park guest described how cast members helped them safely evacuate the Incredicoaster: “The maintenance crew came up in full harnesses and attached to the side of the ride. We were so confused when they unlocked our harnesses and said ‘go stand over there on the scaffold walkway on the wind and rain’ My girls are both under 10 and were terrified!”

A Disney cast member claimed that a mechanical failure caused the shutdown. An automatic safety system recorded the issue and successfully protected all guests on board.

“A cast member told us they had a train that didn’t launch properly and rolled backwards down the initial hill causing all trains to stop in certain safe zones,” the guest explained.

Luckily, everyone appears to have evacuated the Incredicoaster safely. The roller coaster eventually reopened and was operating normally at the time of this article’s publication.
