70 Years Later, Disneyland Is Building a New Castle
Disneyland Resort is preparing for its upcoming 70th anniversary celebrations, and crews have officially broken ground on a Sleeping Beauty Castle construction project.
Although Disneyland Park’s official birthday isn’t until July 15, most of the Disneyland70 celebrations are beginning on May 16, 2025. The party will continue through summer 2026 with new and returning entertainment, themed merchandise, decorations, and exclusive food and beverage offerings throughout Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.
Among the brand-new additions to Disneyland Park are the “Celebrate Happy Cavalcade,” featuring Duffy, ShellieMay, and friends, and the “Tapestry of Happiness” projection show on “it’s a small world.” The Fantasyland ride will also debut a final verse written by the late Sherman brothers and dolls inspired by the Pixar film Coco (2017). Returning entertainment offerings include the Wondrous Journeys fireworks and the Paint the Night electrical parade.
Disney California Adventure Park will debut the interactive “World of Color – Happiness” nighttime spectacular and themed additions to the Toy Story Midway Mania! attraction. “Better Together: A Pixar Pals Celebration!” Parade will also return.
In addition to many themed entertainment offerings, Disneyland Resort will decorate its parks and characters with all-new, 70th-anniversary-inspired gear. Sleeping Beauty Castle will be decorated as it has been during previous anniversaries and holiday celebrations, but the iconic structure will also receive a tribute in the esplanade between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.
With the Disneyland70 celebration just weeks away, work has begun on the Sleeping Beauty Castle sculpture. According to WDWNT, construction walls have appeared in the esplanade, blocking progress from guest view.
Three curved yellow supports rise above the construction walls from a hidden base. Eventually, they will connect in the middle of the 50-foot sculpture of Sleeping Beauty Castle.
The display will also include colorful glass panels and golden charms celebrating the history of Disneyland Resort. Check out the concept art below:
Which Disneyland70 celebration are you looking forward to the most? Disney Dining would love to hear your opinion in the comments!
It’s unbelievable that Disney would take a beautifully stark and desolate castle from a fairytale and turn it into a garish lawn ornament at a miniature golf course.
