Disney groups their resorts into three different tiers. They are the value, moderate and deluxe resorts. You can’t go wrong with any Disney resort, as each one offers guests a fantastic experience, but we’re going to focus on the mid-tier and give you 7 reasons why you’ll love staying at Disney’s moderate resorts.
7. Great Value
Staying at a Disney resort is not exactly cheap, but what you get is definitely worth the price. The moderate resorts are in the mid-price range of resorts and depending on the time of year and the resort, the price of staying at a moderate resort may not actually be THAT much more than staying at a value resort. What do you get for paying a little extra? The theming at the moderate resorts is more immersive and detailed from the lobby, to the pools and the rooms. There are more recreational things to do at the moderate resorts than at the value resorts, and there are even more ways to travel than just the bus, such as the boats to Disney Springs. You definitely have more options in general at these resorts.
6. Beignets
At the French Quarter Resort in Port Orleans there is a delightfully sweet treat that is reason enough to love staying, or visiting, this moderate resort. The beignets are doughnut like snacks that are heavily dusted in powdered sugar. Although they are deep fried, they are lighter than other baked goods or snacks available at the Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Court. You can purchase three or six at a time and they are the perfect snack to grab on your way back to your room after a long day at the parks.
5. Pirates
While much of the Caribbean Beach Resort is under construction, guests can still stay in a pirate themed room! The beds are shaped like pirate ships, crates and barrels are used as tables, and even the curtains and carpets are pirate themed. There are also Pirate Adventure Cruises for 4 – 12 year olds that depart from the Caribbean Beach Resort. This moderate resort is the perfect home away from home for the adventure-seeking Pirate of the Caribbean fan.
4. Royal Guest Rooms
At Port Orleans Riverside there are Royal Guest rooms available for those who want to be surrounded by lush and regal décor. These rooms are decorated with rich colors, the bathroom sink taps are shaped like magic lamps, and portraits of Disney royalty hang on the walls. If you want to feel like a princess or you have a princess in your family, these are the perfect rooms for you.

3. The Pools
The moderate resort pools are, to put it simply, amazing! If you enjoy spending time in or around the pool while on vacation, you will not be disappointed by the pools at the moderate resorts. At the French Quarter you can slide down Scales the sea serpent slide, or head over to Ol’ Man Island pool at Riverside which features a mill and waterfalls. Many pool areas at the moderate resorts have whirlpools as well for those who merely want to relax and recover from the long hours spent in the parks. The theming of the pools is one of the best things about the moderate resorts, you will feel as if you have been whisked away to the theme of the resort. Disney goes all out ensuring that you feel totally immersed in the world of the resort you’re staying in.
2. Lounges
The lounges and bars at the moderate resorts are a huge plus. The Laguna Bar at Coronado Springs has a selection of margaritas and outdoor lakeside seating where guests can relax and take a breather from the busy pace of the parks. Meanwhile the Rix Lounge inside the resort is for those who are looking for a nightlife atmosphere in an upscale setting. If you’re not quite ready to turn in after your day at the park, just steps from your hotel room, you can continue to enjoy your vacation at Disney with specialty cocktails and appetizers to share like wings or flat breads, or go all out and have dinner and drinks.
1. Fun and Entertainment
The moderate resorts are so much more than just a place to rest your head at night. There are a number of recreational things to do at the resorts. There are horse drawn carriage rides along the Sassagoula River, bike rentals, which even include surrey bike rentals for up to four people, there’s fishing and campfires! The moderate resorts offer you multiple fun and entertaining ways to spend time with your family without even having to go to the parks. Different resorts offer different activities so make sure you check out what your resort has in the way of fun and entertainment.
