I love the Grand Floridian for so many reasons. It is unlike anything else on Disney property. While it is definitely one of the more expensive resorts on property, it is certainly worth the money if you can splurge. The Floridian has an atmosphere and way about it that is completely unique and beautiful. Here are seven reasons that I think you will love staying in this exquisite hotel.
7. Shopping
A special feature of the Grand Floridian is its shopping. In most Disney hotels, the shops inside are for Disney merchandise or typical pharmacy-type products. While the Floridian has this, it also has something a little special. The shops in this hotel are total high class and extensive. I’m not a shopping expert, but even I know these are top notch. There are various shops for clothing, perfume, bath and body care, purses, luggage, you name it. The shopping here adds another element of elegance and sophistication to this hotel. Plus, the soap shop makes the lobby smell amazing.
6. The Tea Room
Will that be one lump or two? The Tea Room is an experience like no other on Disney property. The Floridian staff goes out of their way to make you and your party feel like royalty at this meal. If you’re staying at this resort, it’s easy to just wander down to the lobby and follow the sunlight to the Tea Room (even though you’ll still need a reservation way in advance). It’s a brilliant way to relax and enjoy some great company and feel incredibly British.
5. The Pool
Just another pool, you say? Not quite. This pool carries the elegance from the main building to the outdoor space. It comes complete with comfortable deck chairs, private cabanas, and a picturesque walking bridge above the entire space. This family pool is also complete with a 181-foot water slide! But if you’re looking for something a little quieter and more secluded, head to the Courtyard Pool, a second heated pool located in the back of the resort. The Floridian offers a little bit of everything in terms of outdoor amenities.
4. 1900 Park Fare Dining Options
Disney meals are unique, magical experiences in themselves, but the ones at the Grand Floridian are even more so. In this delightful, family style restaurant, breakfast is always a jolly holiday! Yes, that’s right: it’s a character breakfast with Mary Poppins and all your favorite British characters. Lunchtime is also known as teatime at the Floridian. Still at Park Fare, there is a Wonderland Tea Party for the little princesses and princes in your party.

3. Christmas
You wouldn’t think that a posh resort like the Floridian in a massive place like Disney could be cozy, but it most certainly is at Christmastime. The Grand Floridian goes all out over the Christmas season. Like in all of Disney, decorations completely take over in the best way possible. They bring in a giant gingerbread house that can be smelled as soon as you walk through the front door and throughout the lobby. The Floridian staff roasts chestnuts for guests to munch on and make sure to have music playing. The Grand Floridian turns into warm, cozy, cheerful place to relax for a bit!
2. Being on the Lake
Bay Lake has become a Disney landmark over the years. Seated right next to Magic Kingdom, Bay Lake is home to many of our favorite resorts, Grand Floridian included. There’s something absolutely wonderful about waking up to that lake every morning or going for a run alongside it or enjoying a drink in a deck chair on the shore or watching Wishes from the beach. The Lake simply ups the beauty of this already beautiful hotel. It also means that this resort is monorail accessible, which is really nice.
1. The Absolute Elegance
Honestly, all of the reasons you’ll love staying in the Grand Floridian come down to this one. This resort’s elegance is unparalleled. There is a sense of ease here. The lobby essentially can tell this whole story for itself. From the grand entrance and chandelier to the antique birdcage and elevator, no space is forgotten. The detailed carpets and furniture provide comfort and leisure while the open layout allow even kids to run and have fun. Music is a huge part of the elegance that I’m sure you’ll love. There is always music playing in the lobby from either the Grand Floridian Society Orchestra or the tuxedo-ed grand pianist. There’s nothing like relaxing on a couch to the sounds of a big band, watching little ones dance around the room, while the smells of afternoon tea waft throughout.
