If you love coffee, books, cookies, or Disney, you’re pretty much guaranteed to love this place. Coming from someone who loves all of these things, I can testify that it is a lovely little haven in the midst of the sometimes crazy Disney life. Here are 5 specific things that I think you will love about the Writer’s Stop in Hollywood Studios:
5. Quiet: One really great thing that has always been true about the Writer’s Stop is that it’s never that crowded. This is one of the few coffee places around the parks that isn’t a Starbucks yet. While I love Starbucks, the non-name brand coffee makes for shorter lines and a quieter stop. In Disney, a break from the crazy is hard to come by, but always appreciated. The Writer’s Stop does this. It has enough business to keep it open and worthwhile, but is deserted enough for you to be able to focus on the next chapter of your book.
4. Convenience: I have to admit, walking into the Writer’s Stop during a long, hot, Florida day is like walking into heaven. This shop is always has its air-conditioning at full blast and it’s always cold. That’s a definite plus in my book. We usually duck in here to cool off and rejuvenate a bit. The Writer’s Stop is also right next door to the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant, which means it’s only a few steps to a bathroom. While the Writer’s Stop is a great place to spend an afternoon (and I highly recommend you do), it’s also a great pit-stop. The shop is right off of Streets of America and makes for a speedy detour. Easy and quick, cool and comfortable. Can’t go wrong.
3. Snacks: What bookshop would be complete without delicious snacks and fuel for the day? The Writer’s Stop has some fabulous pastries to choose from, like giant cookies and gooey brownies and fun rice crispy treats (my favorite). While these snacks always catch my eye (and my stomach), I usually opt for one of their specialty coffees instead. I personally love the iced mochaccinos, but they have cappuccinos and hot chocolate and frozen coffee drinks, as well. These treats are perfect for snacking on while walking the park to keep you hydrated and happy. But it can also be great to just curl up with a book and sip on that latte for a bit.
2. Merchandise: I’m a writer, I’m a reader, I’m a coffee-drinking freak, so the merchandise in this shop really speaks to me. When you first walk in, you’ll find yourself in the kitchen section – a section that will make you really wish you were a chef. From cute coffee presses, to Mickey potholders, this place has it all. But the real fun stuff comes later in the shop. The walls are lined with bookshelves of behind-the-scene secrets, novels, kids’ books, notebooks and more. These walls beg you to take a gander. You might also get drawn in to the movies or music, which get played constantly on the store TV. This store feels less like the typical gift shops because it has that coffee shop flair. It invites you to browse and take your time, to enjoy the smell of old books and fresh coffee, and to find something that you will actually love.

1. Atmosphere: This is why I go back to Writer’s Stop. The A/C does help, but I stay for the way the Writer’s Stop feels. Because of its residence in Hollywood Studios, the shop is decorated like the back of a film set: lights and cords draped over big crates that read “this side up.” The shop itself is very small, which gives it a nice intimate feel-perfect for relaxing. Speaking of, there’s an awesome oversized couch that sits in the middle of the store in front of an old fashioned TV. This, and the smaller chair next to it, makes for great relaxing. And the great thing about the Writer’s Stop is that people are welcome to do just that. It’s normal for someone to come in, pick a book off the shelf, grab a coffee and sit in front of the TV for a while. Basically, think of your favorite coffee shop, add a little bit of Disney magic, and you have the Writer’s Stop.
