11 Ways A Walt Disney World Trip Can Cure What Ails You

Have you been feeling down lately? Maybe a Disney vacation is exactly what you need! After all, the Disney Parks are all about leaving the real world behind. Here are 11 lighthearted ways that a trip to Disney can help. It doesn’t matter if your destination is Walt Disney World in Florida, Disneyland Resort in California, or one of the Disney Resorts overseas. Maybe a Disney Cruise would also help.

11) Fresh Air and Sunshine

If you’re feeling down because you’re cooped up all day, a Disney vacation could help. You’ll be able to spend time outside, breathe in fresh air, and enjoy the sunshine. Just make sure that you wear sunscreen, because a sunburn will bring you down once again.

10) A Chance to Have Fun

Life can sometimes be mundane and repetitive. When is the last time that you allowed yourself to have some fun? If your cookie cutter days are wearing you out emotionally, you need to start planning a Disney vacation to snap out of the pattern.

9) Time to Bond

How often do you spend quality time with your family or a few close friends? A Disney vacation will allow you to do just that. You will have time to bond and become closer. Spending time with family or friends will help cheer anyone up, and with Disney as the backdrop you will all be closer than ever.

8) Exercise

Exercise helps to regulate mood, it is even used to treat minor depression in some patients. While on a Disney vacation, you will get plenty of exercise. Whether it is walking across a theme park or heading back to your room at the end of the day, you will certainly get your steps in. A day in a Disney Park can also be exhausting, which will help you to sleep better as well.

7) Try Something New

The Disney Parks give you an opportunity to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. What you try is up to you. It could be that you try a food that you were unsure about in the past, or maybe you’ll face your fear of a ride. Trying something new will make you feel accomplished, which is great for your mood.

6) Comfort Foods

There are certain foods that seem to pick people up when they are down. Often the foods are associated with good feelings from childhood. For one person it might be a hot fudge sundae, but another might find comfort in a turkey dinner with all the fixings. There are plenty of places to find comfort foods in the Disney Parks. If you’re at Walt Disney World, make a reservation at 50’s Prime Time Cafe. The menu is filled with comfort foods.

5) Dole Whip

Dole Whip might not be a classic comfort food, but it will bring a smile to most faces. This frozen pineapple treat is a Disney Parks icon. For some people, a Disney vacation is not complete without ordering Dole Whip at least once. One taste and you will feel like you’re home.

4) Extra Magic

There is no guarantee that you will receive extra magic on your Disney vacation, but when it does happen it will really turn your trip around. The extra magic could take place in many different forms. Sometimes it is a room upgrade, other times it is an unexpected FastPass+. The possibilities are endless. Even if you don’t receive any extra magic, you’ll have visited a magical place, which will help cure what ails you.

3) Make You Laugh

It is hard to stay in a bad mood if you are laughing a lot. At the Disney Parks, you might laugh a lot. Whether it’s watching a show, finding jokes in a queue line, or making small talk with a friendly Cast Member, you will find plenty of opportunities to laugh. Take advantage of them, and watch your mood quickly change.

2) Turn Into a Kid Again

Sometimes the responsibilities of being an adult are enough to make anyone want to cry. Fortunately, Disney is not for adults. It is for the kid who still lives inside of you. When you enter a Disney Park, tell your adult self to stay outside of the gate, and let your inner child come out to play. Your inner child still knows how to have fun.

1) A Hug from Mickey

Arguably the best cure for whatever ails you is a hug from Mickey. His hugs are filled with Disney magic. If you’re still holding onto your foul mood after a Mickey hug, then move along to the next character. Hug Goofy, Pooh, Tigger, Chewbacca, and any other characters that you might find. If hugs from your favorite characters don’t turn things around, you probably don’t want to let go of that mood.

About PaulaK

I grew up in Western Massachusetts. When I was nine my family went to Disneyland and I was hooked. I grew up, attended New England College in Henniker, NH and eventually moved to Virginia. I worked as a disc jockey, married and became a full time mom when our daughter was born. Fast forward several years. In 2010 we moved to Central Florida and my Disney obsession grew. I now work as a freelance writer and spend my spare time in the parks. Under the name Paula Brown I penned the novels Dream Wanderers and The Coffee Cruiser. I also am a co-author of Dining at Walt Disney World: The Definitive Guide. I'm obsessed with Star Wars, so this is a good time to live in Central Florida. I've been a vegetarian for well over a decade, a choice that my daughter eventually made as well. While my husband still hasn't joined us fully he has given up most meats except for seafood. I was relieved to find that vegetarian dining is not difficult at Walt Disney World.
