9 Things You’ll Miss The Day After Your Walt Disney World Vacation

The minute you leave the Disney bubble I guarantee you will begin to miss it. My family & I find ourselves missing some specific aspects of our vacation (in addition to the general “magic” of being at Disney) the next day and for a few days after the trip. Here are the things we always talk about the “day after” that we wish we could do/use/see.

9. “Welcome Home”

I love to be welcomed home each time I drive up to the guard gate or enter my resort. I don’t get that when we are back at our real home. It just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

8. Purple Directional Signs

The green, brown & blue signs on the “normal” roads just aren’t the same as the purple signs at Walt Disney World with the red and yellow accents. And some of them even have Mickey ears! I can’t help but be disappointed once we leave the Mickey bubble and we’re back to the same old, same old for road signs.

7. Meals

As a mom, I miss having all of our meals made for us and cleaned up for us at Disney. Everyone can choose what they want from the menu, and I don’t have to work hard to prepare a meal that someone is going to complain about not being what they wanted. Not to mention those favorite items we can only get at Disney like Via Napoli’s pizza. Or the cool restaurant experiences that can’t be found at home like Sci Fi Dine In, Biergarten or 50’s Prime Time. And Chuck E. Cheese is a poor substitute for a Walt Disney World character meal. All mice are not created equal.

6. The Monorail as Public Transportation

I am pretty sure that riding the monorail to where you need to go beats any transportation mode you have for your commute—public or private! The boats probably do too. Buses are questionable, but since they are Disney buses my guess is they are better than most city buses.

5. Disney Smells

You know what I’m talking about. If not, check out this article: http://www.disneydining.com/top-10-smells-walt-disney-world/. There is just something about the way the resorts, attractions and parks in general smell that I miss.

4. Tapping Your Magic Band

Oh how easy it is to open your resort door, enter the parks and pay for your stuff with your Magic Band! I wish that I could have a stylish one (maybe just a purple one) to wear every day at home to touch and pay for my purchases and to save me from searching for my keys.

3. The Only Schedule to Worry about is FastPass+

After each trip I lament about getting back to the real world and having to consult my calendar and schedule. It is so nice to only have to think about which park to visit that day, how long the waits are at attractions, and making sure I make it to my FastPass+ times (& I have a 1 hour window for that) and dining reservations while I’m on vacation. When we get home we often play the “last week at this time we were . . .” game because it is much more pleasant to remember waiting in line for Haunted Mansion than preparing to get to a dentist appointment.

2. Mousekeeping

How nice is it to come back to your room and have the bed made up for you, the bathroom cleaned and fresh toiletries waiting on you? I really, really miss this at home. And staying Club Level with the nightly turn down service and chocolates waiting on your pillow—heaven!

1. Disney Snacks

No matter what snacks I buy to keep in our cabinets at home it just isn’t the same as having Disney snacks at your disposal. Everything just tastes better at Disney. Mickey bars, popcorn, fancy cupcakes, even Mickey shaped cheddar crackers. And they are all readily available (even if it is at a price).

What do you find yourself missing the day after you return from your Walt Disney World Vacation?

About Sarah Chapman

I am a long time Disney fan since I was hooked on Walt Disney World with my first trip in 1987. Since that time I’ve tried experiencing everything I can in the parks, with a total of 30 visits and counting (I’m always planning my next trip) to Walt Disney World—not to mention Disney Cruise Line and even (shhh!) Universal Orlando and Sea World. I’ve turned my Disney obsession into a profession helping others plan their magical vacations as a Dream Vacation Maker at LBAC Travel. I am a work at home mom to three wonderful boys, and each one has been properly indoctrinated with all things Disney. Walt Disney World is definitely our “Laughing Place.” Look for me on Facebook at Facebook.com/SarahLBAC for updates, discount announcements, tips, tricks and planning advice for your next vacation.
