Popular ‘Harry Potter’ Ride To Cease Operations Next Month

Universal Orlando Resort has announced that one of its most beloved Wizarding World of Harry Potter attractions will temporarily cease operations next month. The Hogwarts Express, which connects the Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley lands at Universal Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida, will close for refurbishment.

The Heart of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter remains one of Universal Orlando Resort’s most iconic and immersive theme park experiences. Opening in 2010 with Hogsmeade at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, it expanded four years later with Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida, linked by the Hogwarts Express.

The Hogwarts Express is more than just a ride—it’s a magical experience that transports guests between the two theme park lands. Featuring stunning recreations of iconic moments from the Harry Potter films, the train journey offers fans a chance to feel like they’re stepping into J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world.

Temporary Closure Announced

According to Universal Orlando Resort’s official website, the Hogwarts Express will close for a short refurbishment from January 28 to January 31, 2025. The ride is expected to resume operations on February 1, 2025.

While Universal has not provided details on the scope of the refurbishment, these brief closures are standard for maintaining the safety and quality of attractions that serve thousands of guests daily. Visitors planning trips during this time should be aware that the magical train will not be available.

Big Changes Ahead for Universal Orlando Resort

The refurbishment comes as Universal prepares for a significant update. In May 2025, the highly anticipated Epic Universe will open as Universal Orlando Resort’s third theme park. This new park will feature a land inspired by How to Train Your Dragon (2010), SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, Dark Universe, and a Ministry of Magic addition to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

The Ministry of Magic land, based on the Fantastic Beasts films, will transport guests through magical locations like 1920s Paris and the 1990s British Ministry.

A Magical Journey on Hold

Though the Hogwarts Express will be unavailable for a few days, the rest of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will remain open for Universal Orlando Resort guests to explore. From Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey to Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, there’s still plenty of magic to experience during your visit.
