Universal Orlando Begins Transformation of Iconic Park Entrances After Three Decades

The iconic roadside signs welcoming guests to Universal Orlando Resort are being replaced with cutting-edge digital displays, marking a significant upgrade to the resort’s entrance experience. Construction is already underway to remove the existing signs and install larger, modern replacements, each featuring digital screens and imagery from some of Universal’s most beloved franchises.

A Modern Update to Universal Orlando’s Gateway

Universal Orlando Resort announced in October that its five roadside signs would be completely revamped, bringing a fresh, dynamic look to the park’s entryways. The transformation involves the installation of advanced LED screens designed to display vivid animations, promotional content, and immersive visuals that highlight the park’s popular intellectual properties.

While Universal has not provided a timeline for when the new signs will be unveiled, WDWNT has confirmed that the first steps of construction have begun, with the old signs now removed at most locations.

The new signs will each feature the Universal Orlando Resort logo at the center, framed by designs and characters from blockbuster franchises:

  1. Jurassic World Dinosaurs: Blue the velociraptor and a triceratops take the spotlight, perfectly representing the thrill of Universal’s prehistoric attractions.
  2. DreamWorks’ Shrek: Shrek, Donkey, and Puss in Boots appear against a sky-blue background reminiscent of the DreamWorks logo, adding a whimsical touch to the resort’s entrance.
  3. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: A fog-covered Hogwarts Castle emerges from the Forbidden Forest, capturing the magic and wonder of the Wizarding World.
  4. DreamWorks Animation: Poppy and Viva from Trolls are paired with Po from Kung Fu Panda, representing family-friendly fun and adventure.

The upgraded signs will replace the existing ones at five key locations around the resort:

  • Turkey Lake Road and Hollywood Way
  • Universal Boulevard and Hollywood Way
  • South Kirkman Road and Major Boulevard
  • Vineland Road and Universal Boulevard

At several of these sites, the previous signs have already been dismantled, and black scrims now cover the areas as construction progresses. Notably, decorative landscaping, including red flowers and shrubs, remains untouched, preserving the visual appeal during the construction phase.

What to Expect from the New Signs

Unlike the original designs, which featured the Universal Orlando logo surrounded by sleek silver panels, the new signs will integrate LED screens capable of displaying videos and animated sequences. These digital displays will bring Universal’s storytelling to life, providing a more engaging and dynamic welcome for guests.

This update reflects Universal Orlando Resort’s ongoing commitment to innovation and its mission to stay ahead in the competitive theme park industry. The addition of digital signs also aligns with the resort’s broader evolution, as it prepares for the launch of the highly anticipated Epic Universe park in 2025.

A Fresh Look for Universal

Fans of Universal are eagerly awaiting the debut of the new signs, which promise to combine vibrant visuals with the nostalgia of their favorite franchises. Whether it’s the awe of Jurassic World’s dinosaurs, the magic of Harry Potter, or the charm of Shrek, these upgraded signs will not only serve as entry points but as attractions in their own right.

While construction is still in the early stages, the replacement of Universal’s roadside signs signals an exciting new chapter for the resort, where technology meets creativity to offer guests a truly immersive experience before they even step foot inside the parks.
