More About Maleficent
Maleficent is the evil antagonist in Disney’s 1959 film Sleeping Beauty. The powerful and malevolent sorceress curses Princess Aurora (Briar Rose) to die on her sixteenth birthday after pricking her finger on a spinning wheel’s spindle.
However, the curse is altered by the good fairy Flora, who changes it from death to a deep sleep, from which Aurora can only be awakened by true love’s kiss.
The animated character has become a Disney villain icon with her striking appearance, which includes her horned headdress, black robes, and a scepter. Maleficent is considered one of Disney’s most evil villains, known for her cunning and ruthlessness. Plus, did we mention she can transform into a dragon?!
In recent years, Disney has revisited the character in the 2014 live-action film Maleficent, which presents a reimagining of the story from the perspective of the titular character. In this version, Maleficent is portrayed by Angelina Jolie, and her backstory is explored, revealing her as a misunderstood and complex figure rather than purely evil. Its success led to a sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019).
