Why Disney Parks Is Changing Its Villain Characters in 2026
We have been covering Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party for a long time and today’s announcement genuinely surprised us.

Disney just released all the details for the 2026 party and the headline addition is something that has never been part of this event before: Disney Villains will be roaming the streets of Magic Kingdom on party nights. Not in a greeting line. Not on a stage. Roaming. As in, you are walking through Adventureland minding your own business and a villain appears. The official language is that guests may see new and returning Disney Villains appear as they creep through the streets. Unscheduled. Unpredictable. Actually out in the park.
This is a big deal. Not in a “Disney sent a press release” way. In a “this fundamentally changes what it feels like to be at this party” way. The party has always had extraordinary set-piece entertainment — we will get to all of it. But the idea of Disney Villains as roaming, spontaneous presences throughout the park on Halloween nights adds something the event has never had: the genuine possibility that your evening gets interrupted by Maleficent or Dr. Facilier or Cruella appearing somewhere completely unexpected. That is Halloween energy. That is what this party has been working toward.
Let us go through everything, because there is a lot to cover.
All the Dates and What They Mean for Your Trip

August parties fall on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. September follows the same pattern with one Thursday added on the 24th. October is the densest month, with parties on most Thursdays, most Fridays, most Sundays, most Tuesdays, and Halloween itself on Saturday the 31st.
Here is the part that affects every Magic Kingdom guest whether they have party tickets or not. On party nights, Magic Kingdom closes to regular day guests at approximately 6 PM. The park transitions to the ticketed event and non-party guests need to be out. If you have a standard Magic Kingdom day planned on any of the dates above, your evening ends earlier than you think.
Party ticket holders can enter as early as 4 PM before the official 7 PM start, which means up to eight hours in the park. That early entry window is genuinely worth using.
Tickets: When to Buy and Where

Sales open May 5 for guests at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels, the Swan and Dolphin, and Shades of Green. Everyone else gets access starting May 12. Annual Passholder and Disney Vacation Club discounts are available again this year. You can buy at Disneyworld.com/Halloween or call 407-934-7639. Prices vary by date and the late October nights are the most expensive and the first to go.
Seriously, if Halloween night or the final October weekends are on your list, buy the moment they go on sale. We have watched those dates disappear faster than most guests expect and the secondary market for sold-out party tickets is not a fun situation to be in.
What the Party Actually Delivers on a Night Visit
Beyond the roaming villains, the 2026 party is stacked. Here is everything confirmed so far.
Stitch is taking over the Rockettower Plaza Stage in Tomorrowland with a new dance party. He gets into Lilo’s Costume Trunk and every accessory he tries on triggers a theme swap, keeping the show different all night. Lilo and Angel are there too. The Cadaver Dans, who are the singing ghost quartet in Frontierland that longtime party guests absolutely love, are back as well.
The Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular returns to the castle stage. Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson do their best to cast a spell with assistance from Hades, Cruella De Vil, Jafar, Dr. Facilier, and the Evil Queen. If you have never seen this show, it is one of the best pieces of live entertainment Disney runs anywhere across its parks. Genuinely funny, visually spectacular, and the kind of thing guests rewatch videos of for years afterward.
Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade runs at 8:15 PM. The Headless Horseman leads the way before Mickey and friends and their whole Halloween crew move through the park. Vanellope from Wreck-It Ralph is confirmed in the lineup this year.
Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular fireworks feature Jack Skellington narrating a haunted house story at Cinderella Castle with projections, Zero, Mickey and Friends, and overhead appearances from Ursula, the Queen of Hearts, and Oogie Boogie in the sky. Cinderella Castle during this show looks unlike any other night at Magic Kingdom.
For character greetings: Jack Skellington and Sally, Mickey and Minnie together in Halloween costumes at Town Square Theater, Pooh in his bumblebee costume, and festive royal couples including Ariel and Eric and Aladdin and Jasmine. Full character list is coming.
Trick-or-treating happens at over a dozen stations across the park, marked on the party map. Cast members hand out M&Ms, Snickers, and Starburst. Complimentary treat bags are given to every guest including adults. Costumes are encouraged, not required, and there are official guidelines on what Disney allows.
Ride overlays with special Halloween lighting and music are coming to select attractions, though which rides have not been announced yet. Exclusive merchandise and the food guide are also still to come.
The Food Situation

Since we are a food site and you expect us to address this: the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party food guide is releasing separately. We will cover every item when it drops. If you have been to previous parties, you already know that the seasonal offerings during MNSSHP are some of the most creative limited-time food Disney produces all year. We are looking forward to it and we will have full coverage with our takes on what is worth ordering and what to skip.
Who This Party Is Actually For
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is one of those Disney events that works across a genuinely wide range of guests. Families with young kids get trick-or-treating, characters in costume, and a parade designed with an early enough showtime to keep the evening manageable. Adults who love Halloween and love Disney get villain entertainment, the full theatrical production of the Hocus Pocus show, fireworks, and now roaming villains that make the park feel like a real Halloween experience after dark. Couples, solo park fans, multigenerational groups, it genuinely works for all of them.
The roaming villains are the specific addition that pushes 2026 over the edge from “another great party year” to “genuinely worth attending even if you went last year.” That kind of spontaneous encounter energy is exactly what Halloween should feel like.
Sales open May 5 for resort hotel guests and May 12 for everyone else. Get your dates sorted before then so you know exactly which nights you want and you are ready to buy the moment the window opens. We will be back with the full food guide, the complete character list, and the ride overlay announcements as they come. This is going to be a good Halloween season.
