Walt Disney World has locked in new closure dates for the Disney Skyliner, and longtime followers of the gondola system’s maintenance schedule will notice this one fits a now-familiar pattern.
Another Consecutive January Shutdown
To understand the 2028 dates, it helps to look back at what’s already happened in recent years. The Skyliner went offline for refurbishment from January 25 through January 31, 2026, and a nearly identical closure is already locked in for January 24 through January 30, 2027. Both instances followed the same structure: a short winter closure window, gondola cabins removed from service, and buses substituted to keep guests moving.
The newly confirmed 2028 dates extend that pattern slightly. This time, the system will be down from January 24 through February 2 — a window that runs several days longer than either the 2026 or 2027 closures.
Bus Service Steps In Again
Just as in previous years, guests staying at Skyliner-served resorts should plan on complimentary bus transportation replacing gondola service for the entire closure period. That includes Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, and Disney’s Riviera Resort.
Travel to and from EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios will require extra buffer time during the bus-only period, something guests already adjusted to during the 2026 closure and will experience again in early 2027.
The impact isn’t limited to the main Skyliner stations, either — it extends to the surrounding areas of the resort. Disney’s own site notes that “the Disney Skyliner station at International Gateway at EPCOT is conveniently located just a short stroll away from Disney’s BoardWalk entertainment district, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, and Disney’s BoardWalk Inn,” meaning guests connecting through that station will feel the closure too.
A Recurring Maintenance Window
The Skyliner connects EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, stopping at the resorts listed above, and has become a preferred alternative to bus travel during regular operations. With multiple straight years of January closures now confirmed, the pattern suggests Disney has settled on this stretch as a recurring maintenance slot rather than an isolated event — meaning a similar closure for 2029 wouldn’t be surprising.
Planning Around It
Guests with a late-January 2028 visit on the calendar should treat bus transportation as the expected mode of travel rather than a fallback. It’s a manageable adjustment, but one worth factoring into park-hopping plans well ahead of arrival.
