Walt Disney World’s Epcot Reimagined: What’s on the Horizon?

D23 Disney executives announced in Summer 2019 how Epcot will be reimagined over the next few years.  The goal is to bring more attractions for the whole family as well as more of our favorite characters to life.  Executives shared that they want Epcot to be place that reminds us of the power of hope, the power of possibilities and the power of wonder.  The Disney company will be doing this through these updates, changes and new experiences.

1. Four Neighborhoods

The biggest announcement, when it came to Epcot being reimagined, came in the form of four neighborhoods.  Epcot will soon be divided into four unique neighborhoods each bringing something new and exciting to Epcot.  The four neighborhoods are World Showcase, World Celebration, World Nature and World Discovery.  In each of these neighborhoods, both Epcot experiences already there and new experiences will create a reimagined Epcot.

2. World Showcase

The most surprising announcement around Epcot was in the World Showcase.  Although major changes aren’t coming, guests are thrilled to have a Mary Poppins themed attraction coming to the UK pavilion.  Guests will be able to walk Cherry Tree Lane just like the beloved characters from Mary Poppins. UPDATE: Disney has announced the Cherry Tree Lane project is on HOLD. We’ll keep you posted on when/if Disney plans to resume.

Also, in the World Showcase, China and Canada pavilions will be getting reimagined videos.  These will continue to education and entertain guests about these two amazing countries.  The France pavilion will be getting a Beauty and Beast sing along as well as a unique creperie bringing guests fresh crepes at what is to be called La Creperie de Paris. These small changes to the World Showcase will have a big impact on bringing to life the newly reimagined Epcot.

Epcot’s United Kingdom pavilion will welcome the first attraction inspired by Mary Poppins.

3. World Celebration

World Celebration will be centered around Spaceship Earth.  This landmark attraction will be reimagined as well during Epcot’s renewal.  New scenes, a new guide as well as a new narration will focus on how storytelling brings people together. Also, in this neighborhood will be a fantastic festival structure.  Here guests will be able to enjoy festivals and amazing views of the park throughout the year. Finally, the World Celebration will have a Dreamers Point.  This garden area will be home to a new statute of Walt Disney.  As Epcot was Walt’s dream, this statue will be a reminder of this dream to all who visit.

4. World Nature

The area that is currently known as the Land and Seas Pavilion will be reimagined as the neighborhood called World Nature.  Here the first ever attraction (“Journey of Water”) based on the movie Moana will allow guests to interact with water like never before.  In the Land Pavilion, guests will be able to watch a new movie called Awesome Planet bringing the story of the planet to life like never before.

5. World Discovery

This reimagined neighborhood will bring thrill and out of this world adventure to guests.  The new Guardians of the Galaxy:  Cosmic Rewind will be the first reverse launch ride in Disney.  Also, Space 220 will allow guests to enjoy an out of this world dining adventure as they take in views of the Earth from 220 miles up in the air.  And finally, the new PLAY! Pavilion is a brand new reimagined interactive city that will have games, activities and fun interactive experiences for guests.  Favorite characters like Edna Mode as well as Donald Duck’s nephews Heuy, Dewey and Louie are expected to make this state-of-the-art center a must do.

6. HarmonioUs

The evening show at Epcot had been Illuminations for 20 years but early this fall Epcot Forever took over while guests wait for the biggest reimagination to come in HarmonioUs.  This nighttime show will be a combination of floating sets, fountains, lights, pyrotechnics and more.  Said to be set to Disney tunes that have been reinterpreted by amazing artists, this reimagined show is sure to wow guests.

From the brand-new reimagined neighborhoods of Epcot to the exciting redesigned nighttime spectacular, Epcot will bring guests a magical experience like no other in the coming years.

About Jennifer Retzlaff

My name is Jennifer Retzlaff and I became a lifelong Disney fan during my first trip to Walt Disney World in 6th grade. From that moment, Disney became a big part of my life. I live in Iowa with my husband and two kids who are growing up too quickly for my liking. I started introducing my love for Disney early to my family with a Disney honeymoon and then trips when our youngest of 18 months. Since then, our family has been to Walt Disney World over five times and we continue to plan and dream for the next trip. I love the magic that Disney brings to people through the theme parks, cruises, adventures and movies they create. As a teacher, I try to bring that magic into my classroom to help kids believe that “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It.” I recently reached a dream of mine as I joined Magic Vacation Planner as a personal travel advisor. With this team, I can now help others plan magical vacations. As a passionate writer, I also have my own blog at magicalvacationsbyjen which is also where you can follow me on instagram for trip reviews along with tips and tricks for your next magical vacation.
