The Walt Disney World Railroad station on Main Street, U.S.A., has undergone a second notable change this week, as themed collectible medallions honoring Magic Kingdom Park‘s iconic steam trains have quietly disappeared in favor of generic designs.
Another Update to the Railroad Station
Just hours after guests discovered the removal of the vintage “Metropolis” penny arcade machine from the station, WDWNT reported a separate change unfolding inside the same space. As part of a broader update to collectible coin machines across the Central Florida Disney parks, Disney has swapped out the Walt Disney World Railroad-themed medallions for a more generic set of designs.
The Machine Replacement Trend Continues
This change fits into a larger pattern that Walt Disney World Resort has followed in recent months, gradually replacing older pressed-penny and collectible-medallion machines throughout the theme parks, hotels, and Disney Springs with newer, screen-based dispensers. In most cases, these upgrades have still featured designs tied to their specific locations, preserving the connection between the machine and its setting.
That wasn’t the case here. The previous bronze medallions at the Walt Disney World Railroad station featured an embossed “Walt Disney World Railroad” insignia, paired with four character designs each tied to the specific number of a steam train actively in service at Magic Kingdom Park: Engineer Mickey Mouse (58444), Goofy (42915), Donald Duck (58445), and Minnie Mouse (60598).
What Replaced the Original Designs
The updated machine now offers four gold and silver medallion designs featuring standard character artwork of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and Donald Duck in their typical poses and outfits. Rather than the railroad insignia, the reverse side now shows an illustration of Cinderella Castle. As of Monday’s report, the Minnie Mouse design was already listed as “sold out.”
Whether Walt Disney World Resort intends to bring back steam-train-themed medallions remains unclear.
