Universal Orlando Resort has spent the last several years transforming Islands of Adventure piece by piece. Attractions have closed, entire sections of the park have changed, and more updates are expected as Epic Universe settles into its role alongside the resort’s existing parks. Now, another longtime favorite appears to be inching closer to the end of its run.
Universal has previously said that Mythos Restaurant will remain open until 2027 before eventually closing as part of the ongoing changes to The Lost Continent. On its own, that wouldn’t seem especially urgent. But recent events have left plenty of fans wondering whether that schedule could change.
The biggest reason? Thunder Falls Terrace in Jurassic Park is now officially closed.
One Closure Is Already Complete
For years, Thunder Falls Terrace gave guests a relaxing place to enjoy lunch while watching Jurassic Park River Adventure boats plunge down the attraction’s famous drop. It was one of the more unique dining spots inside Islands of Adventure thanks to its location and open-air seating.
Now that restaurant is no longer operating.
Its closure immediately fueled speculation because many fans believe the building could eventually become Mythos’ new home once construction begins elsewhere in The Lost Continent. Universal has not confirmed that plan, but the rumors have circulated for quite some time, and Thunder Falls Terrace sitting empty only adds more fuel to the conversation.
Fans Have Heard This Timeline Before
Universal has maintained that Mythos isn’t expected to close until sometime in 2027. If that schedule holds, guests still have time to enjoy one more meal beneath the restaurant’s towering rockwork and waterfalls.
The problem is that Universal has changed its timeline before.
Fast & Furious – Supercharged is the most recent example. The company originally indicated the attraction would continue operating into 2027 before announcing that its final day would arrive much sooner than many expected.
That doesn’t mean the exact same thing will happen with Mythos.
There has been no announcement suggesting Universal has moved the restaurant’s closure date forward. Still, the Fast & Furious situation serves as a reminder that long-term plans can change if construction schedules evolve.
The Clock Is Ticking
Mythos has built an impressive reputation since Islands of Adventure opened in 1999. It isn’t simply another theme park restaurant. Many visitors make reservations specifically because of its atmosphere, architecture, and menu, even if they aren’t spending an entire day inside the park.
That makes the eventual closure much more significant than losing a standard quick-service location.
Whether Universal sticks to its original schedule or decides to accelerate its plans, the restaurant’s future seems fairly clear. Universal has already acknowledged that Mythos won’t remain in its current location forever.
With Thunder Falls Terrace now closed, some fans believe one major piece of the puzzle is already in place.
No one knows whether Universal will move more quickly than expected. The company hasn’t indicated that it will. However, recent history shows that announced timelines aren’t always permanent.
If Mythos remains open through 2027, guests still have plenty of opportunities to visit. But if Universal decides to follow the same approach it used with Fast & Furious – Supercharged, today’s timeline could look very different tomorrow.
For now, one thing appears certain: Mythos will eventually close. The only uncertainty is exactly when Universal decides the time has come.
