Universal Studios Roller Coaster Closure Follows Fatal Six Flags Accident

Parks Around the Globe Respond

A Universal Studios Japan roller coaster closure has become a concern for guests following a fatal accident at Six Flags Over Georgia, where a passenger was ejected from Goliath on October 12, 2026. Attention has turned to Hollywood Dream – The Ride at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, Japan, as other parks temporarily suspend similar attractions.

Hollywood Dream experienced a reported operational interruption on October 14. However, Universal Studios Japan has not publicly confirmed that the interruption was ordered because of the Georgia accident. That distinction matters as the investigation expands and additional roller coasters face precautionary closures.

Fatal Six Flags Accident Triggers Roller Coaster Shutdowns

On October 12, a guest died following an incident involving Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia, near Atlanta.

According to the Cobb County Police Department, officers responded at approximately 3:58 p.m. and discovered 42-year-old Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem beneath the attraction.

Preliminary interviews indicated that Kariem had been ejected from the roller coaster, struck other passengers, and fallen beneath the ride. Investigators have not determined precisely what caused the ejection.

The incident prompted Six Flags to temporarily suspend nine additional roller coasters across six North American parks as a precaution.

As previously covered in Inside the Magic’s report on the Six Flags shutdowns, the closures raised questions about shared equipment and whether additional attractions might require inspections.

The affected attractions include several manufactured by Swiss roller coaster company Bolliger & Mabillard, commonly known as B&M.

The central question remains whether investigators will identify a problem specific to Goliath or something requiring broader examination.

Universal Studios Japan Roller Coaster Closure Raises Questions

Hollywood Dream – The Ride is among Universal Studios Japan’s recognizable thrill attractions.

Located in the park’s Hollywood area, the roller coaster offers guests a music-driven experience, with a separate Backdrop configuration allowing passengers to travel backward.

According to Universal Studios Japan’s official attraction information, the attraction accommodates guests meeting its published ride requirements and supports Universal Express Pass access.

Hollywood Dream also uses B&M technology, making its operations particularly relevant to discussions surrounding the Georgia accident.

An October 14 operational report indicated that Hollywood Dream had been unavailable for more than two hours that morning. Nevertheless, the park’s published October closure schedule did not list a newly scheduled suspension associated with the fatal accident.

Why B&M Roller Coasters Are Facing Increased Scrutiny

The manufacturer connection explains why an accident at an American amusement park could attract attention thousands of miles away.

Goliath belongs to B&M’s hypercoaster family, which emphasizes substantial drops, speed, and airtime rather than traditional inversions.

The attraction uses lap-bar restraints to secure passengers. However, investigators have not established that a mechanical restraint failure caused Kariem’s death.

Witness descriptions of a restraint coming loose remain allegations, not an official determination.

The Associated Press reported that authorities and Georgia ride-safety officials were investigating the circumstances while Six Flags implemented precautionary closures.

Other parks have also responded.

Inside the Magic reported that Carowinds temporarily closed Fury 325 and Thunder Striker, two B&M attractions.

The response illustrates how an investigation involving one attraction can influence operational decisions elsewhere.

Still, sharing a manufacturer does not automatically mean different roller coasters have identical restraints, mechanical configurations, or safety concerns.

Could More Universal Roller Coasters Close?

For Universal guests, the immediate concern extends beyond Hollywood Dream.

Universal operates major roller coasters across its international theme park portfolio, including attractions with dramatically different ride systems and restraint configurations.

However, there is no verified announcement establishing a Universal-wide roller coaster shutdown.

The Flying Dinosaur at Universal Studios Japan, for example, provides a different flying-coaster experience. Its presence at the same park does not establish that it faces the same potential concerns as Hollywood Dream.

Similarly, the existence of other intense Universal attractions does not establish that their operations will be suspended.

The distinction between a manufacturer-specific inspection and a general shutdown is essential.

Inside the Magic has also documented other major attraction changes at Universal Studios Japan, although those developments are unrelated to the Georgia investigation.

For now, additional Universal closures remain a possibility rather than a confirmed operational decision.

What Universal Studios Japan Guests Should Watch Next

Visitors planning a trip to Osaka should monitor the park’s official attraction closure calendar and daily operating information.

The park warns that attraction schedules can change without advance notice.

Guests holding Express Passes for Hollywood Dream should seek guidance directly from Universal Studios Japan if the attraction becomes unavailable during their visit.

Meanwhile, investigators in Georgia must determine what happened aboard Goliath before any broader safety conclusions can be established.

The most consequential next developments will be an official explanation of Hollywood Dream’s operating status, findings from the Georgia investigation, and any additional manufacturer or park announcements.

Until those details emerge, a global B&M shutdown affecting Universal parks cannot be presented as confirmed.
