Universal Orlando guests arriving early at Universal Studios Florida today were met with an unexpected surprise. One of the resort’s most beloved attractions did not open with the park.
According to Inside Universal on X, both E.T. Adventure and DreamWorks Land remained closed until 11 a.m., despite the park officially opening an hour earlier.

“At least for today, E.T. Adventure and DreamWorks Land will open at 11am; an hour after the park’s official opening time. @UniversalORL”
The delayed opening immediately grabbed attention online because E.T. Adventure is not just another ride at Universal Studios Florida. It is one of the most historically important attractions the park still has.
And for families with younger children, the operational change created an even bigger problem.

E.T. Adventure Is One of Universal’s Last True Classics
Universal Studios Florida has changed dramatically over the years.
Opening Day attractions have slowly disappeared as the resort moved toward larger franchises, newer technology, and more intense experiences. In recent years alone, guests have watched entire sections of the park transformed into something almost unrecognizable compared to the 1990s version of Universal.
Now, with Horror Make-Up Show temporarily closed for a major reimagining, E.T. Adventure has officially become the only remaining Opening Day attraction currently operating inside Universal Studios Florida.
That gives the ride a level of importance far beyond nostalgia alone.
E.T. Adventure also remains one of the park’s most accessible attractions for younger children thanks to its lower height requirement. While Universal continues adding thrill-heavy experiences across the resort, E.T. has quietly remained one of the few rides smaller kids can consistently enjoy.
That is exactly why today’s delayed opening stood out so much.
DreamWorks Land Closure Amplified the Problem
The issue became even more noticeable because DreamWorks Land also remained closed during the park’s first hour of operations.
DreamWorks Land was specifically designed to expand family offerings at Universal Studios Florida. The area gives younger guests more attractions, play spaces, and entertainment options in a park that many parents already view as less toddler-friendly than Walt Disney World.
But with both DreamWorks Land and E.T. Adventure unavailable at park opening, options for families with children under 34 inches suddenly became very limited.
For many families, that first hour inside the park is incredibly important.
Guests often arrive before opening specifically to maximize shorter wait times and lower crowd levels. Families with younger children especially depend on those early morning hours before the Florida heat and heavier crowds arrive later in the day.
Losing access to some of the park’s most child-friendly offerings during that period naturally frustrated some visitors.
Universal Has Made Similar Operational Adjustments Before
Universal Orlando has reduced attraction hours before.
Entire lands and individual attractions have occasionally opened later than official park hours during slower attendance periods or operational adjustments. That part itself is not unusual for theme parks.
What makes this situation different is the attraction involved.
E.T. Adventure has become one of the emotional anchors of Universal Studios Florida. While modern attractions focus on screens, launches, and high-intensity thrills, E.T. still offers a slower-moving, story-driven dark ride experience many fans consider irreplaceable.
The attraction has also become increasingly important as more classic Universal attractions disappear.
Parents who once rode E.T. as children now bring their own kids back to the same attraction decades later. Few rides at Universal Orlando still create that kind of multigenerational connection.
That is why even a temporary reduction in operating hours immediately becomes a major talking point online.

Fans Are Already Paying Close Attention
Even though Universal only reduced hours “for today,” some fans are already worried about the larger picture.
Universal Orlando is currently deep into one of the biggest transformation periods in company history. Epic Universe has dramatically shifted attention toward new technology, massive intellectual properties, and future expansion projects.
At the same time, older attractions continue disappearing across the resort.
Hollywood Rip Ride RockIt has already been demolished. Fast & Furious: Supercharged is officially heading toward closure in 2027. Horror Make-Up Show is being rebuilt into something entirely different.
That leaves E.T. Adventure as one of the last major attractions still carrying the spirit of classic Universal Studios Florida.
So when guests suddenly see the ride operating on reduced hours without much warning, fans naturally begin wondering whether more operational changes could eventually follow.
Guests Want Full Access During Full Park Hours
At the center of the conversation is a pretty simple guest expectation.
Theme park tickets continue becoming more expensive every year. Families spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on a vacation generally expect major attractions to operate during the full advertised park day unless weather or technical issues force closures.
For many visitors, especially those with small children, E.T. Adventure is not optional filler. It is one of the main reasons they visit Universal Studios Florida in the first place.
That is why today’s delayed opening generated so much attention despite only lasting an hour.
Because when one of Universal Orlando’s most iconic attractions suddenly disappears from the opening lineup, even temporarily, fans notice immediately.
