A Universal Orlando vacation later this year could include several experiences that guests haven’t been able to enjoy for months.
Much of 2026 has included some lengthy closures at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. While temporary refurbishments are nothing unusual at a major theme park resort, a few of these absences have lasted for a significant portion of the year.
Now, the waiting game is getting closer to ending.
Three familiar Universal experiences are expected to return between November and winter 2026. One already has a specific date attached to its comeback, while Universal has provided broader reopening windows for the other two.
There’s also another major project taking shape at Universal Studios Florida. Universal has confirmed that one for 2027, but exactly when guests will get to experience it remains unknown.
One Major Attraction Finally Has a Return Date
Guests at Islands of Adventure have been without Jurassic Park River Adventure for nearly all of 2026.
Universal closed the water attraction on January 5 for an extensive refurbishment. What followed became a much longer absence than guests might normally associate with seasonal maintenance.
Now, Universal has provided an endpoint.
Jurassic Park River Adventure will reopen on November 20, meaning it should be operating again before Thanksgiving and the heart of the Christmas travel season.
The reopening brings an important attraction back to Jurassic Park after more than 10 months away.
Guests will once again be able to experience the ride’s journey from its calmer opening scenes into increasingly dangerous dinosaur encounters. The adventure ultimately ends with the massive plunge that has helped make the attraction a recognizable part of Islands of Adventure.
While that return now has a firm date, two other Universal experiences remain slightly less certain.
A Familiar Restaurant Should Be Back This Winter
Universal Studios Florida has also been without Finnegan’s Bar & Grill for months.
The Irish-American restaurant sits across from Revenge of the Mummy and has traditionally offered guests indoor table service on busy park days.
Universal hasn’t announced a specific reopening date for Finnegan’s, but the company has listed its return for winter 2026.
That means guests still don’t know exactly when the doors will reopen. However, Universal’s current timeline indicates the restaurant will reopen before 2026 ends.
Its comeback would restore another longtime option to Universal Studios Florida after an extended absence.
And not far away, an even older Universal experience is preparing to start its next chapter.
Decades of History Lead to a New Version
Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show didn’t simply close for a routine refurbishment.
The original production gave its final performance on May 11 before the attraction closed the following day. Universal then began work on a reimagined version of the longtime show.
That’s particularly notable because the Horror Make-Up Show has been part of Universal Studios Florida since opening day.
Universal expects the updated experience to debut in winter 2026, although an exact reopening date has not been announced.
The biggest question now involves what guests will actually find when it returns.
Universal chose to rework the experience rather than remove it permanently, giving the longstanding attraction another chapter. Fans will have to wait for its reopening to see how much has changed and which familiar elements remain.
Meanwhile, another project could quickly become Universal Studios Florida’s next HUGE attraction opening.
All Eyes Are Turning Toward 2027
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift continues to make progress in Orlando.
The coaster’s Universal Studios Hollywood counterpart officially opened September 16, 2026, putting more attention on the version now under construction at Universal Studios Florida.
Universal has confirmed one important detail: the Orlando coaster will open in 2027.
Beyond that, the timeline remains unclear. Universal hasn’t announced a month or an exact opening date.
With construction progressing, a late-winter opening in January or early February could be possible. However, that remains speculation rather than an official timeframe from Universal.
Until the company provides more information, guests shouldn’t plan a vacation around experiencing Hollywood Drift.
What Does This Mean for Winter Guests?
For guests arriving toward the end of 2026, the Universal Orlando attraction lineup could look considerably more complete.
Jurassic Park River Adventure returns November 20, ending one of the year’s longest attraction closures. Finnegan’s Bar & Grill and the reimagined Horror Make-Up Show are also expected back during winter.
Those three returns won’t erase every change happening around Universal Orlando, but they will restore several experiences guests have been missing for months.
After that, attention will increasingly turn toward Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift.
Universal has promised the Orlando coaster for 2027. Exactly how early in the year it arrives remains the next major question.
