There was a time when the easiest way to get everyone in your group to agree on what to do next at Universal Studios Florida was to suggest a show with dogs in it. You could take a seat, watch trained animals work with their handlers, and get a little Hollywood history in the process. As of Tuesday, November 3, 2026, that stop is off the itinerary.
The Animal Actors closure ends a show that goes all the way back to Universal Studios Florida’s opening day. Monday, November 2, was the final performance date outlined in Disney Dining’s final-weekend coverage. The resort’s official park calendar lists the closure as permanent beginning November 3.
Families can still put E.T. Adventure on the list if they want a piece of the original park. The other opening-day show with a behind-the-scenes Hollywood hook, Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show, is temporarily unavailable while Universal reworks it.

The Animal Actors Closure Ends a Tradition That Began on Day One
The show debuted as Animal Actors Stage on June 7, 1990, the day Universal Studios Florida opened. Disney Dining’s look back at the show’s original run traces its evolution through Animal Planet Live and then Animal Actors on Location! Across those versions, the attraction kept putting the animals and their trainers at the center of the performance.

There was a little star power, too. The official Animal Actors page featured a pug dressed as Frank from Men in Black, alongside images of birds working with trainers and audience members. The movie reference was fun on its own. Seeing a bird land on a guest’s hand gave the audience a closer look at a skill that might pass in a second or two on film.

That made Animal Actors a good fit for a park built around the movies. Universal could put you in the middle of a story on one attraction and show you a little of the work behind the camera at the next. Animal Actors gave that second idea a format families could share, even when everyone in the group had a different appetite for rides.

E.T. Adventure Is Still an Option for Families Who Want a 1990 Original
The official E.T. Adventure listing places the ride in Hollywood at Universal Studios Florida. Guests board flying bikes and head for E.T.’s home planet. It’s a different kind of movie magic from what Animal Actors offered, but the two attractions help explain why the original park appealed to families in the first place.
There’s a practical distinction if you’re moving things around on your itinerary. E.T. Adventure has a 34-inch minimum height, and riders under 48 inches need a supervising companion. That matters if Animal Actors was the activity you expected everyone to do together. Check the height requirement before making E.T. your group’s replacement stop.
The Horror Make-Up Show also dates to opening day, but it’s still temporarily closed on Universal’s calendar. Disney Dining’s coverage of the show’s planned return details the reimagined production. For a trip coming up soon, the resort’s calendar is the place to check whether the show has returned by your visit.

Universal Has Plans for the Space, but the Next Attraction Is Still Under Wraps
Universal said Animal Actors would make way for a new experience, as Disney Dining covered when the permanent closure date was confirmed. As of November 3, the company hasn’t publicly named the replacement or shared an opening date. Whether guests will eventually take their seats in that amphitheater again depends on what Universal decides to do with the space.
The timing is worth keeping in mind if you’ve been working from an older trip plan. Disney Dining’s November Universal Orlando closure roundup includes several attractions with temporary downtime. With Animal Actors, shifting your park day won’t bring the show back. If it was your sit-down break between rides, look at the live entertainment schedule for your visit and pick a new stop before you build the rest of the day around it.
The detail to watch when Universal finally reveals its plans is whether families will get another experience they can sit down and share. For 36 years, that was one of the best things about having Animal Actors on the schedule.
