If you’ve been counting down the days to visit Epic Universe, there’s one small—but important—reminder you’ll want to keep in mind before you arrive in May. One of the park’s more family-friendly spaces is about to go offline for a short stretch, and it could change how your day plays out more than you might expect.

Viking Training Camp, located inside the How to Train Your Dragon-themed Isle of Berk, will be closing starting May 4 and will remain unavailable through May 22. While that might not sound like a major disruption at first, it’s the kind of update that tends to matter most once you’re actually inside the park.
This area isn’t a traditional attraction with a wait time. Instead, it’s a fully interactive play space where kids can climb, explore, and burn off energy in a themed environment. It’s one of the few places in Epic Universe where younger guests can move freely without being tied to a structured ride experience.

That’s exactly why its absence can be felt.
For families, Viking Training Camp often acts as a built-in reset button during the day. It gives kids a chance to take a break from lines while still staying immersed in the world of Isle of Berk. Without it, parents may find themselves needing to adjust their plans—either by leaving the land sooner or finding alternative places for downtime.
The timing of this closure also adds to its impact. Early May is a popular travel window for guests trying to visit before peak summer crowds arrive. That means plenty of visitors may be heading into the park expecting the full experience, only to realize one piece is temporarily missing.
It’s also worth noting that Viking Training Camp isn’t the only attraction with downtime around this timeframe. With Mine-Cart Madness in Donkey Kong Country also scheduled to close briefly starting May 3, guest flow throughout the park could shift in noticeable ways.

That doesn’t mean your trip will be negatively impacted—it just means planning ahead becomes even more important.
If you’re visiting between May 4 and May 22, the best approach is to stay flexible. Focus on the experiences that are available, and build in time for breaks elsewhere. Isle of Berk will still offer plenty to enjoy, but your time there may look a little different than expected.
At the end of the day, this is a short-term closure in a brand-new park that’s still finding its rhythm. Viking Training Camp will return, and for many guests, this temporary downtime won’t be a factor. But if your trip lines up with those dates, having this reminder now can help you avoid surprises later.
