Universal Erases Islands of Adventure Area, Replacement Land Still Unannounced
Another piece of The Lost Continent is gone.
Treasures of Poseidon, the gift shop in the land at Universal Islands of Adventure, has been demolished.
The shop closed earlier this year. Construction walls went up in early September, right after Poseidon’s Fury was completely demolished in August.
What the Site Looks Like Now
Photos show something new. From where the gift shop stood, there is now a clear view across the Islands of Adventure lagoon to Marvel Super Hero Island.
That is worth noting. Those structures sat between the walkway and the water. An open sightline means demolition went to the waterfront, not just the building pad.
Whatever comes next has lagoon frontage.

The Mythos Detail Is the Real Story
Forget the rubble for a second.
Mythos Restaurant permanently closes next year.
Universal is converting Thunder Falls Terrace, over in Jurassic Park, into a full-service restaurant to fill that gap.
Think about what that means. Universal is spending money rebuilding a signature dining experience in a completely different land.
Nobody does that for a temporary closure. You do not relocate a restaurant if the original returns in two years.
Demolition says the buildings are down. The Thunder Falls conversion says they are not going back up.
Universal Has Announced Nothing
No replacement land. There’s no concept art. Along with no name, no timeline, no confirmation that anything at all is planned for the space.
Everything past the demolition is guesswork.
The Pokémon Rumor
The dominant theory points to a Pokémon land.
It has been reported repeatedly. Universal has never confirmed it.
The reasoning holds up. Universal has been chasing globally recognizable franchises for years, and few are bigger.
One correction people keep missing: Pokémon is not purely a Nintendo property. The Pokémon Company runs it, co-owned by Nintendo with Game Freak and Creatures.
Which raises a real question. Super Nintendo World sits at Epic Universe. A Pokémon land at Islands of Adventure would split Nintendo-connected properties across two gates. Either a smart multi-park play or a strange split, depending on your read.
The Harry Potter Theory Has History
The other popular guess is a Wizarding World expansion, and this one is not wishful thinking.
Hogsmeade took part of the original Lost Continent footprint when it opened in 2010.
Potter has already eaten this land once. The geography still works.
The counterargument: Universal has kept expanding the Wizarding World at Epic Universe, and a third Potter area in Orlando is a different bet than the second one was.
Neither theory is confirmed.
Construction at the Entrance, Too
Guests are hitting walls immediately now.
Barriers and scrim have gone up around portions of Island Market and Export and the Port of Entry Christmas Shoppe. Both stores stay open while crews work. One wall reads “Please pardon our dust.”
Universal has not said what the project involves or how long it lasts.
It looks like work on the existing stores rather than a new entrance, but it means construction greets you before you reach the bigger work inside.
What Is Actually Being Lost
The Lost Continent was the only Islands of Adventure land not built on an outside property.
Marvel, Toon Lagoon, Jurassic Park, Seuss Landing, Hogsmeade. All licensed. Lost Continent was invented by the people who designed the park in 1999.
Whatever replaces it will be franchise based. That is how this works now.
Not necessarily bad. A strong Pokémon land would pack the park. But the thing going away was unusual, and there will not be another.
The Confirmed List
Poseidon’s Fury: demolished.
Treasures of Poseidon: demolished.
Mythos: closing next year.
Thunder Falls Terrace: becoming its replacement.
Everything else is people staring at an empty lot.
