Visitors planning a fall trip to Epic Universe have one more date to circle on their calendars. Universal has confirmed that one of the newest theme park’s most popular attractions will temporarily close this September, affecting guests during a busy vacation season.
While the closure only lasts a few days, it removes one of the park’s signature experiences during a time when many families hoped to enjoy everything Epic Universe has to offer.
Universal Schedules Brief Refurbishment
According to Universal’s operating calendar, The Untrainable Dragon will close on September 15, 2026, for a scheduled refurbishment. The attraction is expected to reopen on September 21.
The maintenance period is relatively short, lasting less than one week.
Still, the announcement stands out because Epic Universe remains one of the newest major theme parks in the country. Having opened in May 2025, the park has only been operating for a little over a year.
Although regular maintenance is expected for any attraction, seeing one of the park’s marquee offerings temporarily disappear this early is something many guests likely weren’t anticipating.
Universal has not indicated that the refurbishment is related to any operational concerns.

Inside Isle of Berk, The Untrainable Dragon quickly established itself as one of Epic Universe’s defining attractions.
The live production combines storytelling, music, performers, impressive dragon puppetry, and special effects into a family-friendly experience that differs from the park’s collection of rides.
For many visitors, it has become one of the highlights of an Epic Universe day.
Because performances accommodate large audiences, the attraction also plays an important role in helping distribute crowds throughout the land.
It’s one of the reasons the temporary closure will likely be noticed by guests visiting during that week.
