‘Toy Story 5’ Could Unveil Secrets About Andy’s Family, Jessie Fan Theory Resurfaces
The Toy Story series has always been rich with emotional depth and intricate storytelling. Now, with Toy Story 5 on the horizon, set to release on June 19, 2026, speculation is rife about the direction the franchise might take.
Tim Allen, returning once again as the voice of Buzz Lightyear, recently teased that the new film will focus significantly on Jessie, the beloved cowgirl voiced by Joan Cusack.

“I can tell you that it’s a lot about Jessie,” Allen told WIVB, which could lend to a fan theory that has circulated for years: that Andy’s mother (Laurie Metcalf) was Jessie’s original owner.
In Toy Story 2 (1999), Jessie recounts being cherished and then abandoned by a girl named Emily. Fans have long pointed out the uncanny similarity between Jessie’s hat and the one Andy wears, suggesting a familial link.

This theory opens the door to exploring more about Andy’s family, particularly his father, who has been notably absent from the series. A separate fan theory posits that Andy’s father, also named Andy, was the original owner of Woody (Tom Hanks), having won the prototype doll in a cereal contest during his childhood.
It suggests that Andy Sr. passed down Woody to his son, creating a generational bond through the toys.
While Pixar has not confirmed these theories, Toy Story 5 presents an opportunity to delve into the Davis family’s history, potentially providing fans with long-awaited answers.

With Andrew Stanton directing (Finding Nemo, WALL-E, Finding Dory), the film is expected to tackle contemporary themes, including the impact of technology on children’s playtime. Concept art from Disney’s D23 Expo depicted toys observing children absorbed in tablets, highlighting the evolving dynamics between toys and their owners.
As anticipation builds, fans are eager to see how Toy Story 5 will expand the beloved universe, possibly shedding light on the mysteries surrounding Andy’s family and deepening the emotional resonance of the series.
