Top Reasons to Visit Walt Disney World in 2020

With 2019 being almost halfway over, it is time to start looking towards 2020.  Why should you schedule your Walt Disney World vacation for 2020?  Below are our top five reasons why you should plan to visit Disney in 2020.

1. Star Wars:  Galaxy Edge

A great reason to visit Walt Disney World in 2020 is to experience all there is to offer in Galaxy Edge.  Hopefully by mid 2020 the crowds will be somewhat manageable and guests will have more time to explore and experience the land itself.  From rides on Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run where guests can participate in an interactive smuggling mission to all of the food that they can enjoy at Oga’s Cantina, guests will be sure to love this new land.

2. New Rides and Experiences

2020 will bring a variety of new and exciting rides and experiences to guests.  In Epcot, guests will be able to enjoy the new evening show in Epcot Forever. Coming in the fall of 2019, Epcot Forever will be a celebration of the past and future of Epcot using fireworks as well as special effects. Also in Epcot, will be a new experience in France.  France will be getting a new sing along performance focusing on Beauty and the Beast. Announced for Disney’s Hollywood Studios is Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Located in the Chinese Theatre, this new ride will take guests on an adventure like never before. Inspired by Mickey shorts, guests will be taken along with Mickey and friends on what is being advertised as unbelievable experience.

3. Resorts

Opening in 2019 is Disney’s Grand Destino Tower.  Located at Disney’s Coronado Springs, this new tower brings more resort rooms and suites as well as a special dining experience.  Toledo will be located at the top of the tower where guests can enjoy delicious tapas, steak and seafood.  Moving into 2020, this will be a top destination for resort guests. With a scheduled opening in late 2019, Disney’s newest DVC resort of Riviera will be available for guests traveling in 2020.  Offering 1,2- and 3-bedroom villas, guests are able to find rooms that offer a home away from home type vacation.  Also located in Disney’s Riviera Resort will be Topolino’s Terrace.  Guests will enjoy regional dishes from Europe such as Italian and French dishes.  This signature dining experience will provide views of both Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  For breakfast, guests will be able to enjoy a prix-fixe character dining. 2020 will be a wonderful time to head to Walt Disney World and stay at one of these new resorts.

4. Transportation

In 2020, guests will be able to enjoy Disney’s newest transportation in the sky line. Scheduled to open late 2019, Disney’s Skyliner will provide guests staying at Pop Century, Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Riviera Resort as well as Art of Animation transportation to both Hollywood Studios and Epcot.  This will be a fun, convenient system for guests wanting to stay at these resorts.

5. Longer special events

Finally, in 2020 it seems like we could possibly experience the longest running special events throughout Walt Disney World.  Dates for 2019 Food and Wine Festival was announced earlier with dates running from August 29 – November 23, 2019 making it the longest running festival yet.  This seems to be the trend that festivals in Epcot are moving towards allowing guests to experience these events more often and longer during the year.  We also have seen an increase in Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.  Along with these events are an increase in special events such as After Hours and Early Morning Magic at the different parks. These events are ticketed events that allow guests to experience the parks with low wait times.  With Galaxy Edge opening, we have seen an extension of extra, extra magic hours for a few months leading up to the holidays.  These are when the park opens a few hours early to those guests staying on resort property.

We are hopeful that these events will continue to be offered throughout the 2020 calendar year.

Bonus: With 2019 bringing in Galaxy Edge and 2021 being the 50th anniversary, we are thinking that 2020 might bring lower crowds mid-year.  It seems like die hard Star Wars fans will be heading down at the end of 2019 where as many Disney fans will be waiting for 2021 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the park.  Although there is no way to know this for sure, we are thinking it is a possibility.

Every year is a fantastic year to visit Disney.  We think that 2020 will bring a variety of new and fun rides, shows, and transportation to guests so start planning today.

About Jennifer Retzlaff

My name is Jennifer Retzlaff and I became a lifelong Disney fan during my first trip to Walt Disney World in 6th grade. From that moment, Disney became a big part of my life. I live in Iowa with my husband and two kids who are growing up too quickly for my liking. I started introducing my love for Disney early to my family with a Disney honeymoon and then trips when our youngest of 18 months. Since then, our family has been to Walt Disney World over five times and we continue to plan and dream for the next trip. I love the magic that Disney brings to people through the theme parks, cruises, adventures and movies they create. As a teacher, I try to bring that magic into my classroom to help kids believe that “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It.” I recently reached a dream of mine as I joined Magic Vacation Planner as a personal travel advisor. With this team, I can now help others plan magical vacations. As a passionate writer, I also have my own blog at magicalvacationsbyjen which is also where you can follow me on instagram for trip reviews along with tips and tricks for your next magical vacation.
