Brand-New Spider-Man Revealed in Wake of Tom Holland ‘Doomsday’ Absence
Spider-Man fans have seen their favorite web-slinger evolve and take on many different forms over the years, but Marvel’s latest iteration is a fresh and exciting one.
Takuya Yamashiro, the Spider-Man from the Japanese Spider-Man television series, is swinging into action with a brand-new costume and a different identity from Peter Parker or Miles Morales. A bold new redesign now refreshes the Japanese take on the legendary hero, and his return promises to shake up the Spider-Verse in an exciting new direction.
In the world of Spider-Man, fans are now used to seeing Tom Holland’s Peter Parker as the go-to wall-crawler. From his debut in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) to his role in Avengers: Endgame (2019), Holland’s portrayal has been iconic, to say the least.
However, his version of Peter Parker will be notably absent from the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday (2026), which has left fans wondering where Spider-Man’s story will go next. Now, while Spider-Man 4 is in development, there’s another Spidey ready to swing into action. Not a replacement, but a different character entirely.
In the world of comics, Takuya Yamashiro’s new Spider-Man persona previously appeared in the 2014–2015 “Spider-Verse” and 2018 “Spider-Geddon” comic storylines. Now, he’s set to return off the back of the recent “Web of Spider-Verse: New Blood” and “Web of Venomverse: Fresh Brains” one-shots.
In the ongoing story, Takuya plays a crucial role in the Multiversal “arachnid war” against Symbiotes, set to unfold in “Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse” #3, due for release this July.
Marvel fans can thank Luciano Vecchio for the stunning new look of this Japanese Spider-Man, which was revealed by CBR on March 28. In collaboration with writer Mat Groom, the visual design has evolved to perfectly capture the spirit of Spider-Man while giving it a refreshing, distinctly Japanese touch.
“In the story, a new costume for Takuya is introduced, and it helps setting him visually apart from Peter,” Vecchio told CBR.
“I rewatched episodes and clips of the Japanese Spider-Man show to tap into that universe’s sensitivity and dramatic body language, and also referred to other early ‘80s shows in the Tokusatsu genre for aesthetic cues like the scarf and black lenses,” he continued. “I bounced ideas and references with writer Mat Groom before landing on this visual that can be shortened to Spider-Man meets Super Sentai.”

“Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse” is set to introduce fans to new heroes and villains, with the future of both universes hanging in the balance.
The comic’s synopsis hints at an action-packed series where the fate of the Spider-Verse could be decided in a series of high-stakes battles between familiar and new characters.
While Tom Holland’s Spider-Man may be taking a break from the spotlight in the MCU, Takuya Yamashiro is ready to pick up the slack and keep the web-slinging action alive.
The Japanese Spider-Man has already become a fan favorite in his own right, proving that Spider-Man’s legacy is both adaptable and endless. Fans of all ages should keep an eye on the “Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse” saga—it’s going to be one wild ride.
“Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse” #1 (of 5), written by Kyle Higgins and Mat Groom with art and cover by Lucian Vecchio, goes on sale May 14, and “Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse” #3 (of 5), with art by Jim Towe, goes on sale July 23.
