This International Disney Theme Park Is Packing Its Bags, Leaving Original Location
Tokyo Disney Resort is taking an attraction on the road!
On July 22, The Oriental Land Company, the group that operates Tokyo Disney Resort under license from The Walt Disney Company, announced that the “Magic in the Air” drone show will tour various locations across Japan. The 15-minute drone spectacular will perform at several major fireworks festivals starting in August 2025.
The show uses an impressive 1,500 drones to create stunning visuals of Disney characters, including scenes inspired by Frozen (2013), Peter Pan (1953), and Tangled (2010), all set to iconic Disney music. The visuals are inspired by the newest addition to Tokyo DisneySea: Fantasy Springs, which features themed areas for the aforementioned Disney classics.
“Magic in the Air” isn’t exactly a newcomer. It first premiered in the summer of 2024 to celebrate the grand opening of Fantasy Springs. Prior to this, a different drone show toured fireworks festivals across Japan in 2023 as part of Tokyo Disney Resort’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
Now, Tokyo Disney Resort is bringing “Magic in the Air” to new locations across Japan. Its first stops will be the 109th Ashikaga Fireworks Festival in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture, on August 2 at 7:15 p.m. and the 32nd Akagawa Fireworks Festival in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, on August 16 at 7:00 p.m. More stops will be announced later. However, the Japanese Disney parks won’t be hosting the drone show.
In addition to the drone show, Tokyo Disney Resort is also celebrating 20 years of Duffy and Friends with a fuzzy Duffy Bear bus touring Japan. The next stop for this adorable vehicle will be the Wakayama Sand Castle Square in Wakayama City, Wakayama Prefecture, on November 23, 2025, with more details on the exact timing to come closer to the date.
