This Classic Disney World Show Is Saying Goodbye

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is on the brink of some major changes, with a beloved yet divisive attraction set to close for good. It’s Tough to Be a Bug, the long-running 4D show inside the park’s iconic Tree of Life, will officially close on March 17, 2025. While this marks the end of an era, it also paves the way for new experiences coming to the park in the near future.

A Bug’s Life Comes to an End

For over two decades, It’s Tough to Be a Bug has given guests an immersive (and sometimes startling) look at life from a bug’s perspective. The show, based on A Bug’s Life (1998), features Flick, Hopper, and other insect characters in a quirky talent show—until things take a turn and humans become the villains. With startling effects, such as unexpected pokes and creepy-crawly sensations under the seats, this attraction has entertained some guests while leaving others—especially younger kids—running for the exits.

But after March 17, the attraction will be permanently retired, making way for an all-new show inspired by Zootopia (2016).

Introducing Zootopia: Better Zoogether

Disney has confirmed that a new 4D show called Zootopia: Better Zoogether will be replacing It’s Tough to Be a Bug. While exact details remain under wraps, the experience will feature popular characters like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde and take guests through various biomes seen in the Zootopia film.

This marks a significant shift for the Tree of Life Theater, which has housed It’s Tough to Be a Bug since Animal Kingdom opened in 1998. Originally set for a winter 2025 debut, the timeline may be adjusted due to the delayed closure of the existing attraction.

The Bigger Picture: Tropical Americas Takes Shape

Beyond the Zootopia addition, Animal Kingdom is undergoing a major transformation. DinoLand U.S.A., once a hub for prehistoric-themed attractions, is being completely reimagined into Tropical Americas, bringing new experiences inspired by Encanto (2021) and Indiana Jones.

The changes will likely include an Indiana Jones-themed ride replacing DINOSAUR, as well as a new area celebrating Encanto, where guests may be able to explore the Madrigal family’s magical home. These updates mark a major departure from the park’s original theming, moving away from dinosaurs and toward more modern storytelling.

What’s Next for Animal Kingdom?

With the closure of It’s Tough to Be a Bug and the transformation of DinoLand U.S.A., 2025 will be a pivotal year for Disney’s Animal Kingdom. While longtime fans may be sad to see an original attraction leave, the park’s new experiences promise fresh adventures for guests.

If you’re planning a trip to Disney World next year, expect plenty of construction—but also some exciting new additions that will reshape Animal Kingdom’s future.
