Disney Walls off ‘The Little Mermaid’ Attraction, Effective September 2026
The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure has all but disappeared from view at Disney California Adventure Park, as construction materials now cover nearly the entire building housing the popular Paradise Gardens Park attraction.
How the Construction Spread
The refurbishment first became visible in early August, when scaffolding covered in dark scrim fabric appeared on the ride’s exterior. Over the following weeks, additional construction equipment arrived on site, including plywood barriers that restricted theme park guest access to large portions of the surrounding area. Locked wooden doors have since served as the only entry points for Disney cast members working within the enclosed zone.
As the project has advanced, Disneyland Resort has steadily replaced much of the original black scrim with themed fabric designed to blend with the attraction’s exterior. Today, the Little Mermaid (1989) ride building sits almost entirely hidden behind construction materials.
A Building Nearly Fully Concealed
Guests reported over the past week that the entire show building for The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure had become obscured by beige construction walls and scrim fabric. Photos shared by X (formerly known as Twitter) user @laughingplace capture the extent of the coverage, showing only a small glimpse of the roof, including King Triton’s Trident, peeking out above the material. The user wrote:

WDWNT also shared an image of the attraction’s exterior on September 21, revealing that a section of plain black scrim remained visible above the outdoor queue:
That section will likely be swapped for themed fabric in the coming weeks to match the rest of the building.
Business Continues Inside
Even with construction materials covering nearly the entire exterior, The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure remains open and operating normally. Disneyland Resort has not issued any public statement about the ongoing work, which appears centered on repainting and general upkeep. The Southern California vacation destination‘s official website currently shows no scheduled closures for the ride.
