Disney Parks are known for their epic celebrations, especially on special holidays, but even the most frequent Disney theme park Guests agree that they’ve never seen a celebration quite like this. For France’s national holiday, Disneyland Paris pulled out all the stops in an enchanting spectacular that not only wowed Guests but broke a European record! Honestly, it kind of put Walt Disney World’s July 4th offerings to shame…Check out Bastille Day at Disneyland Paris!
Bastille Day, also known as French National Day, is a public holiday in France celebrated on July 14th each year. It marks the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille prison on July 14, 1789, during the French Revolution. This event is considered a turning point in the revolution and is a symbol of the fight against tyranny and the struggle for democracy and freedom in France. Bastille Day celebrations usually include parades, fireworks, French cuisine, and parties throughout the country.
In honor of Bastille Day, which parallels America’s Independence Day, Disneyland Paris put on a nighttime fireworks show over Sleeping Beauty Castle like none other. The park used 1,495 drones to create Europe’s largest drone show EVER! The drones formed symbols of French culture, such as the French flag (in the shape of Mickey Mouse), the Eiffel Tower, and the Notre Dame Cathedral.
Of course, this drone show also featured some Walt Disney Animation Studios and Disney/ Pixar French favorites such as Beauty and the Beast (1991), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), The Aristocats (1970), and Ratatouille (2007). The images illuminated in the sky above Disneyland Paris were so clear, crisp, and vibrant that crowds and virtual onlookers couldn’t contain their awe.
American Disney fans immediately questioned why the drones weren’t being implemented in the US parks, while France locals were happy to enjoy the spectacle while it was still exclusively a Disneyland Paris experience.
Catch a glimpse below! Happy Belated Bastille Day Disneyland Paris!
