Streaming Service Cancels ‘Wicked’ Movie
Time is running out for fans wanting to revisit the land of Oz. Universal’s Wicked will soon be exiting Peacock—marking the end of its first streaming run after a triumphant theatrical and digital journey.

Jon M. Chu, best known for In the Heights, brought Gregory Maguire’s reimagined Oz to life with bold visual flair. The film stars Cynthia Erivo as the misunderstood Elphaba and Ariana Grande as the charming Glinda, following their unlikely friendship and eventual split as destinies clash in the world of magic and politics.
The cast featured some serious star power. Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero), Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard), Michelle Yeoh (Madam Morrible), and Ethan Slater (Boq) rounded out the ensemble. Songs by Stephen Schwartz and a sweeping score from composer John Powell gave the story its emotional center. Chu’s adaptation leaned into Broadway’s strengths while amplifying them through cinematic spectacle.

Audiences and critics turned out in droves. Wicked became the top-grossing musical adaptation ever, collecting over $700 million globally. It made $460.6 million in the U.S. and another $240.4 million internationally.
Reactions were overwhelmingly positive. CinemaScore awarded the movie an “A,” while it currently holds a 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics echoed that sentiment with a 90% rating, lauding the production’s ambition and powerful performances. The accolades soon followed, including a Golden Globe for Box Office Achievement and a nod for Best Film from the National Board of Review.

Wicked’s Streaming Exit Confirmed
After breaking records on Peacock when it premiered on March 21, 2025, the movie is now preparing to exit the platform.
As confirmed by The Direct: “Peacock has confirmed that Wicked is set to leave its streaming library on July 20, with both the standard and sing-along versions now appearing on the platform’s ‘Leaving Soon’ page.”

Wicked: For Good Brings Elphaba and Glinda Back
But the journey through Oz isn’t over yet.
Wicked: For Good, slated for release on November 21, continues the saga of Elphaba and Glinda as they face the consequences of their choices. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are back, with one of the most anticipated numbers finally arriving: Erivo’s take on “No Good Deed,” a highlight of Act Two on stage.
The trailer has already dropped, kicking off what’s expected to be another major promotional campaign. If the social media energy mirrors last year’s response, Wicked: For Good could build on the original film’s momentum.

That’s disappointing Wicked is leaving Peacock
