‘Star Wars’ Officially Recasts Several Actors in New Sequel
Few Star Wars characters have refused to stay dead quite like Maul. Since his return in The Clone Wars, the former Sith has become one of the franchise’s most layered and complex figures, moving from apprentice to crime lord across animation, comics, and beyond.
Now, Lucasfilm is pushing that arc further with Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.
The newly released trailer for the upcoming series sets the tone for a series steeped in criminal politics and unfinished business. Set after The Clone Wars, the story follows Maul as he attempts to rebuild his syndicate on a planet beyond Imperial control.

According to StarWars.com, his plans bring him into contact with a disillusioned Jedi Padawan—someone who could become the apprentice he’s been searching for.
Sam Witwer returns once again as Maul, continuing a performance that spans The Clone Wars and Rebels. Around him is a cast that blends new faces with longtime Star Wars actors stepping into unfamiliar territory. Wagner Moura voices Brander Lawson, a detective navigating the same underworld Maul is trying to dominate, while Gideon Adlon plays Devon Izara, a Twi’lek Jedi survivor whose path intersects with Maul’s ambitions.

However, several actors previously tied to other Star Wars roles also appear here in entirely new guises. Richard Ayoade voices the droid Two-Boots after playing Q9-0 in The Mandalorian. Vanessa Marshall returns as Rook Kast, having previously voiced Hera Syndulla and portrayed Kast in The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch.
Chris Diamantopoulos, A.J. LoCascio, David W. Collins, and Steve Blum also take on new characters following earlier Star Wars performances across animation, games, and live-action.

Dennis Haysbert and Charlie Bushnell round out the cast as Master Eeko-Dio-Daki and Rylee Lawson, respectively.
Developed by Dave Filoni and Matt Michnovetz, Maul – Shadow Lord continues Lucasfilm’s focus on the criminal underbelly of the galaxy. The series premieres with a two-episode event on April 6, 2026, streaming weekly on Disney+ through May 4.
Ahead of that, Marvel Comics will release Star Wars: Shadow of Maul, a five-issue prequel series arriving in March 2026.
