‘Star Wars’ Offers Fans a New Alternative to Starcruiser With Latest Teaser

Star Wars has delivered its fair share of misfires in recent years, but few have crashed harder than Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, the two‑night “voyage” at Walt Disney World that demanded staggering fares and folded after just 18 months of operation.

Built as a seamless extension of the popular themed land Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the Halcyon promised lightsaber training, interactive storylines, and high-end cuisine. What guests actually discovered were windowless bunkers, whirlwind schedules, and bills that made a trip to Canto Bight look thrifty.

While it remains to be seen whether Disney will replace Galactic Starcruiser for a more affordable Star Wars experience remains to be seen. But fortunately, there’s a stand‑in of sorts for the immersive faraway galaxy escape fans have been craving all these years.

“Star Wars Outlaws,” released last August, arrived with mixed reviews—low‑resolution textures, frame‑rate hiccups, and sales beneath Ubisoft’s forecasts. Fans also accused the open-world video game of being “woke” for changes made to its lead female character.

Yet the open‑world epic, which is set between Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi (1983), is still the best ticket to the galaxy far, far away we’ve had since Star Wars: Episode V — A New Hope was released way back in 1977.

Playing as Kay Vess, the titular outlaw who navigates life in the criminal underworld, you can skip from cantina to cantina, bribe Imperial officers, or simply explore several planets on a repurposed speeder bike—and you can do it all without re-mortgaging your home.

The first DLC, “Wild Card,” expanded the game last year. Now, a brand-new extension has been revealed in the form of “A Pirate’s Fortune,” which lands May 15.

Ubisoft teased the add‑on during last week’s Star Wars Celebration with a cinematic trailer that pairs Kay with legendary con artist Hondo Ohnaka—a face familiar to watchers of the animated shows, The Clone Wars and Rebels. You can check it out below:

Of course, a video game can’t replicate choreographed lightsaber duels or dinner theater, but “Star Wars Outlaws” nails the one thing Starcruiser never could: scale. Where the Halcyon offered two nights indoors, Ubisoft hands players a sandbox of entire planets.

If you missed the chance to sleep in a star‑porthole cabin—or wisely skipped the bill—Kay’s next caper might be the cheapest way to scratch that hyperspace itch.

“Outlaws” is available to play across all platforms.
