‘Star Wars’ Gets Two New Official Trailers for Upcoming Projects

The next few years are shaping up to be pretty big for the Star Wars franchise.

Star Wars on the Big Screen

In film, The Mandalorian & Grogu, directed by Jon Favreau (2019’s The Lion King) and starring Pedro Pascal, will fly into theaters in May 2026, followed one year later by Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) and starring Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049).

Star Wars on the Small Screen

Announced at Star Wars Celebration in April, the spin-off series Star Wars Visions Presents will premiere in 2026. There’s also Season 2 of the live-action series Ahsoka (2023), although there’s no release date yet. There’s plenty coming to another small screen, too.

The recent annual Game Awards (2025) unveiled several trailers for upcoming video game titles, including “Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight” and “007 First Light”, as well as some first-look trailers for not one, but two brand-new Star Wars games.

“Star Wars: Galactic Racer”

In the newly announced “Star Wars: Galactic Racer”, players will get to relive the thrills of podracing — the faraway galaxy sport introduced in George Lucas’ Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999) — while revisiting iconic locations where they will tear across sprawling terrain on purpose-built racetracks, some legal, some of them unsanctioned.

“Lucasfilm Games has a long and successful relationship with many of the key leaders at Fuse Games from their time at Criterion, including their work on ‘Star Wars Battlefront II Starfighter Mode’,” VP and GM of Lucasfilm Games Douglas Reilly told StarWars.com.

“In addition to the great work on our projects, they have been industry leaders in some of the most beloved racing franchises in ‘Need for Speed’ and ‘Burnout’,” he added. “I can’t think of any other studio better suited to bring Star Wars racing back to our fans.”

“Star Wars: Galactic Racer” follows a character named Shade, described by Fuse Games’ co-founder Matt Webster as “a lone racer with a dream of glory and revenge.”

“Players will learn more about Shade as they progress through the game’s campaign. Your aim is to survive long enough to earn your shot at becoming an elite racing pilot,” Webster added. “Our races are high-stakes competitions where racers do everything they can to get to the front in the solo campaign and in our awesome multiplayer gameplay.”

Fans will remember 1999’s “Star Wars Episode I: Racer”, the video game based directly on the sequence in The Phantom Menace.

Two other podracing games followed – the 2000 arcade title “Star Wars: Racer Arcade”, and the 2002 sequel to the Episode I game, “Star Wars Racer Revenge”.

But “Star Wars: Galactic Racer” isn’t just set apart by having the luxury of over 20 years of gaming evolution under its belt, but also by ambition and scale.

“We’ve drawn real inspiration from runs-based games so the player will have meaningful, consequential decisions to be making on how they chose their path to become an elite racing pilot — from the vehicle they choose to start with, the upgrade choices they make to create a build that really suits their playstyle and what events they select in determining their path to become champion of the League,” Webster revealed.

“Along the way you’ll compete with rivals, journey to new planets, and master different classes of repulsor craft — or speeders — each with their own distinct capabilities.”

The trailer also confirms the return of the villainous Dug, Sebulba, who tried to cheat against young Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd) during their race in the 1999 film.

“There’s so much love for Sebulba on the team and across the Star Wars community,” Webster said.

“There are particular reasons why he finds his way into our trailer as well as a detail in this shot that may lead to even more questions, the answers to which we’ll have to leave to another time!”

“Galactic Racer” will speed onto PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X in 2026.

“Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic”

The second Star Wars gaming title is shrouded in a bit more mystery.

“Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic” is an upcoming action RPG (role-playing) game developed by Arcanaut Studios and published by Lucasfilm Games.

It serves as a spiritual follow-up to the hugely popular “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic” series, set during the titular era and following a Force-wielder.

Watch the Game Awards 2025 trailer below:

“The fate of the galaxy is in your hands in a narrative-driven action RPG where you step into the role of a Force user on a journey through a galaxy on the edge of rebirth,” the official synopsis on StarWars.com says.

“Blending innovative storytelling, memorable characters, and heart-pounding combat, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic immerses you in an unforgettable experience where every decision deepens your journey toward light or darkness.”

While there’s no release date, “Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic” is scheduled to release for Windows and unspecified consoles.
