Savi’s Workshop Abruptly Blocked at Disney World, Lightsaber Building Experience Affected
Construction walls now block off most of the courtyard area near Savi’s Workshop in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, making the wait to check in much more cramped for Walt Disney World Resort guests. This unexpected closure is the latest update in an ongoing series of construction projects in Batuu.
On August 31, 2025, WDWNT reported that the courtyard near Savi’s Workshop, typically a place where guests can wait and enjoy the shade under umbrellas, has been closed off by new construction barriers. These wooden walls, coupled with tightly pulled tarps, are designed to blend into the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge atmosphere, but they now block a significant part of the space where guests usually wait to check in for the lightsaber building experience.

@starwars @DisneyParks! The best. He made us feel like we were in a movie. Thank you for the memories!Staff was kind & patient 😊🙏
The construction area is extensive, wrapping around nearly the entire courtyard, meaning that Disney Park guests can’t see what’s happening behind the walls. While Savi’s Workshop itself remains open, the umbrellas that were previously available have been removed or relocated to the small section of the courtyard that the new construction walls haven’t blocked.
While the ongoing construction doesn’t affect the lightsaber building experience itself, Walt Disney World Resort guests may notice the disruption to the overall ambiance and waiting area. With fewer shaded spots available, guests could be left standing in the open while waiting for their experience.
The news follows a pattern of disruptions in the area, as earlier this summer, Disney began construction on the border between Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land. The Toy Story Land side features colorful rainbow-themed construction walls, while the Batuu side of the construction remains consistent with the beige walls of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Although Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t provided specific details regarding the construction walls, permits suggest that a new food kiosk might be added to the Toy Story Land side of the border.
At this point, there are no official details on when the construction will be completed or if any changes will affect other areas of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Savi’s Workshop continues to accept reservations for the lightsaber-building experience, but walk-up availability remains extremely limited.
