Opened in 2019, Galaxy’s Edge, also known as Batuu, already mesmerizes guests with signature attractions like Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. With themed food, drinks, and immersive details, this corner of Disneyland is a dream for fans of the galaxy far, far away.

Recent permit filings hint at thrilling upgrades in the Black Spire Outpost. The new plans include installing four projectors at key locations—Oga’s Cantina, the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, the Village Shops, and Souk Market. Speculation abounds about the purpose of these additions. Could they enhance the Fire of the Rising Moons nighttime show, which already captivates audiences on select evenings? Or might they herald a brand-new nighttime spectacular for this beloved land?

Another intriguing possibility is greater interactivity within the Black Spire Outpost itself. These projectors could introduce stunning visual effects or dynamic interactions, heightening the land’s signature immersive storytelling. Imagine the spires of Batuu coming to life with bustling projections or vivid animations weaving new tales for guests. Regardless of the specific plans, this move underscores Disney’s commitment to continually elevating the guest experience.

These updates arrive amid broader transformations at Disneyland Resort. Announced at the D23 Expo, upcoming projects include the Avatar: The Way of Water expansion at Disney California Adventure Park and a double-sized Avengers Campus featuring Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab. Meanwhile, Disney will unveil its first Coco-themed ride, adding more magic to Walt’s original park.

As Disney prepares to push the boundaries of its storytelling technology, the Force grows even stronger at Galaxy’s Edge.

About Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
