Released at the end of July, the fourth installment in Sony and Marvel Studios’ Tom Holland-led Spider-Man series has already blown past the $1 billion and $2 billion thresholds, and it recently overtook Avengers: Endgame (2019) on the list of top domestic earners.

Now the film has crossed another finish line. Per Comic Book Movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has climbed to a global total of $2.32 billion, enough to leapfrog James Cameron’s 1997 classic Titanic ($2.257 billion) and claim the number-four spot among the highest-grossing films in history.

That places the movie just behind Avatar: The Way of Water ($2.334 billion) in third — a gap it’s expected to close soon. Only Avengers: Endgame ($2.797 billion) and Avatar ($2.923 billion) remain ahead of it at the very top of the chart.

The film also stars Zendaya as MJ and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, better known as the Punisher, alongside Holland’s Peter Parker. Its box-office run has reinforced Spider-Man’s standing as one of the most enduring franchises in pop culture, and it’s not the only Holland project setting records this year: Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey (2026), still playing in theaters, has pulled in $1.458 billion globally as of publication — a haul that also boosts co-stars Zendaya and Bernthal, both of whom appear in Nolan’s epic.

Between the two releases, Holland is having arguably the biggest year of his career at the box office. Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s reign near the top of the charts may not last, however. The Russo Brothers are set to return to the MCU with Avengers: Doomsday (2026) this December, and the fifth Avengers film could pose a serious threat to Cretton’s numbers when it opens December 18 — the same day Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three (2026) hits theaters.

For now, Sony and Marvel have plenty to celebrate, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day standing as proof that the wallcrawler’s box-office pull remains as strong as ever heading into the industry’s next big holiday showdown.

He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his… More »
