Space Mountain is a must-do at Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Tokyo Disney Resort (though this version is currently closed for a complete rebuild). The attraction, known at some Disney parks as Star Wars: Hyperspace Mountain, takes guests on a roller coaster journey through the awe-inspiring darkness of the universe beyond Earth.
For some Disney parks fans, the idea of seeing Space Mountain with the lights on is more thrilling than the ride itself. Luckily, one Disney Park guest just shared a behind-the-scenes look at the Tomorrowland roller coaster.
Becca (@beastmode.becca on TikTok) recently experienced a rare Space Mountain evacuation at Disneyland Park. The guest shared this video of her experience:
@beastmode.becca That was a unique experience lol #disney #disneyparks #disneyland #distokfam #disneytiktoks #disneyadult #disneyplus #spacemountain
The video began as Becca and her travel partner sat in their motionless roller coaster train. Disney cast members had already turned the overhead lights on inside the dark Space Mountain building.
“We’re stuck,” the Disney Park guest said.
“Travelers in rockets, please remain seated as your flight will continue in a moment,” an automated announcement said. However, that promise never materialized.
Becca said Disney cast members arrived quickly to check on guests stranded on the ride. “They did a great job of explaining what will happen next,” she wrote.
Eventually, all guests had to evacuate from their Space Mountain ride vehicles. Disney cast members helped guests out of their seats row-by-row, one at a time. Unfortunately, during this process, one Disney Park guest dropped her phone into an inaccessible part of the ride.
Then, Disney cast members walked guests down some stairs under parts of the Space Mountain roller coaster and through a backstage, cast-member-only area.
“They did such a good job of keeping everyone calm and relaxed,” Becca recalled. “…The evacuation process was quick and easy.”
Disney cast members gave guests Lightning Lane passes to compensate for the unexpected ride breakdown. Becca said her travel party enjoyed the process.
“We just had fun with it,” she concluded. “Sometimes, the experience of a ride breaking down is more fun.”
It’s unclear what caused this Space Mountain breakdown, but the attraction eventually reopened and was operating normally when this article was finalized.
