Guests Jump Out of Space Mountain at Disneyland, Cast Members Rush to Scene
Space Mountain recently shut down at Disneyland Resort after one of the ride vehicles went “the wrong way” into a maintenance area. In a video shared on social media, Disney cast members quickly arrived on the scene to evacuate the 47-year-old Disneyland Park attraction.
The iconic indoor roller coaster first opened in Tomorrowland at Disneyland Park in May 1977, two years after its sister attraction in Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort. The intergalactic attraction eventually became integral to the Disney Park experience, eventually appearing at Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disney Resort, and Disneyland Paris Resort. Tokyo Disneyland is currently rebuilding its version of Space Mountain, with the new coaster expected to open in 2027. Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Park (Paris) have rethemed their versions into the Star Wars-themed Hyperspace Mountain.
Earlier this month, Instagram user @n8thegr8clips shared this video of himself and his family on Space Mountain at Disneyland Park. The Disney Park guest was filming his normal ride when suddenly the vehicle took an unexpected turn:

In the video, the coaster train turned into a maintenance bay area instead of continuing on its normal route. The guest waited in darkness for a moment until a blue light illuminated the area and Disney cast members appeared. They instructed guests to remain seated until they were evacuated.
One by one, Disney cast members rolled an evacuation platform toward each ride vehicle and helped pull guests out of their rockets. It appears that everyone was evacuated safely.
What caused this evacuation remains unclear. Disneyland Resort rarely makes public statements about routine ride issues, and this situation is no different. However, Space Mountain eventually reopened and was operating normally at the time of this article’s publication.
