Sony Confirms ‘Jumanji 3’ Release Date! Will Star-Studded Cast Return?
The Jumanji franchise began with the original film in 1995, featuring the late Robin Williams as Alan Parrish. The film followed Parrish, who, as a child, was sucked into a mysterious board game. Years later, two siblings discover the game and must face its challenges to release him. The original film achieved considerable box office success, grossing approximately $262.8 million worldwide.
In 2017, Sony Pictures revitalized the franchise with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. This modern interpretation transformed the board game into a video game, enticing a new generation of viewers. The film starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as archaeologist Dr. Xander “Smolder” Bravestone, Kevin Hart as zoologist Franklin “Mouse” Finbar, Karen Gillan as martial arts expert Ruby Roundhouse, and Jack Black as cartographer and paleontologist Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon.

Following this success, Jumanji: The Next Level was released in 2019, continuing the journey of the beloved characters and raking in another $801.6 million. Together, the sequels have accumulated over $2.02 billion at the box office, which made deciding to make a third film a no-brainer.
Sony Pictures has officially announced the release date for Jumanji 3, scheduled to hit theaters on December 11, 2026.
Jumanji 3 is happening on December 11, 2026, Sony has just announced. That’s the same pre-Christmas slot that Sony has launched the previous films in its Jumanji franchise. The movie will have full command of Imax and PLF screens that weekend.
Director Jake Kasdan and star posse Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan are expected to return and are in talks.
Nothing else is dated for that December 2026 frame, but Jumanji 3 opens one week before Disney’s untitled Star Wars movie and Warner Bros/Legendary’s supposed release of Dune 3 on December 18.
The return of major cast members has not been confirmed for Jumanji 3. However, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are expected to reprise their roles. Director Jake Kasdan, who helmed the previous installments, will also return, and producers involved in the upcoming film include Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Matt Tolmach.
While official details regarding the plot of Jumanji 3 are still scarce, speculation abounds about potential storylines. In a 2019 interview, Dwayne Johnson hinted that the story might center around Jurgen the Brutal, a character introduced in Jumanji: The Next Level. The actor said the new film will focus on the person controlling Jurgen in the game.
