Disneyland Resort’s 70th-anniversary tribute to Sleeping Beauty Castle is quietly being dismantled in the esplanade. Guests arriving at the Southern California Disney parks on Tuesday found the iconic anniversary centerpiece already partially gone.
Sleeping Beauty Castle Sculpture Is Coming Down
WDWNT reported on July 21 that Disneyland Resort had begun dismantling the large Sleeping Beauty Castle sculpture that has stood in the esplanade between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park since the Disneyland70 celebrations launched on July 17, 2025. The outlet shared a photo of the work in progress — the towers and roof already removed, with teal blue construction walls now surrounding what remains of the display. The golden archway and stained-glass details were still visible at the time of the report, suggesting the full removal will continue in the coming days.
The sculpture was one of the most photographed elements of the anniversary celebration, designed with five towers each bearing a flag and a decorative nod to one of Disneyland Park’s original lands — Frontierland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Adventureland, and Main Street, U.S.A.
A metal silhouette of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse was also part of the installation, though that element was swapped out partway through the celebration after guests widely noted that Walt Disney’s hat shape made the figure look more like President Donald Trump than the founder of Disneyland Resort.
Still Three Weeks of Celebrations Left
The early teardown of the Sleeping Beauty Castle sculpture doesn’t mean the Disneyland70 era is over. The anniversary programming — spanning limited-time entertainment, attraction overlays, and exclusive merchandise across both Southern California Disney parks — runs through August 9, 2026.
