WATCH: Disney World Restaurant Celebrates Guest’s Birthday With a Single Candle on an Empty Plate

A birthday dinner at Disney Springs left one Walt Disney World Resort guest with quite the story to tell, after restaurant staff marked the celebration with nothing more than a lone candle standing on an otherwise bare plate.

TikTok creator Maddie Brewster (@maddiebrewster_pt) posted a video this week capturing the moment a member of her group received his birthday “dessert” at a Walt Disney World Resort dining location. Instead of the expected cupcake or ice cream, the restaurant presented him with just a single lit candle, its base melted enough to keep it standing upright on an empty ceramic plate.

Brewster shared the clip with the caption:

When you spend $168 at Disney Springs for your birthday dinner and can’t even get a bite of cake 😂🎂🥳 😂#birthdaydinner #lonecandle #ihopeyourehungryfornothing #disneysprings #birthday

The video shows another guest at the table laughing so hard she was in tears, remarking, “I’ve never seen anything like that.”

The celebration took place at Frontera Cocina, a Mexican Table-Service restaurant located in the Town Center neighborhood of Disney Springs. Although the restaurant isn’t owned or operated by the Walt Disney World Resort, it does accept the Disney Dining Plan. Ownership aside, the unexpected moment turned into one of the most talked-about parts of the group’s trip.

Setting the Record Straight

Responding to comments on the video, Brewster clarified that the group didn’t blame their server for the strange presentation, calling him “so nice” and adding: “We don’t blame him, it’s gotta be the restaurant policy or something.”

Several viewers guessed that dietary restrictions might explain the lack of an actual dessert, but Brewster directly corrected the assumption.

“Nope! No dietary restrictions,” she wrote. “We just said we were there to celebrate his birthday and this is what they brought out when they sang happy birthday.”
