Through tears, Selena apologized to her community, expressing her heartbreak and frustration. “I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something, but I can’t. My people are being attacked, and I don’t know what to do,” she said, visibly distressed.

While the video has since been deleted, Selena later posted a follow-up message addressing the backlash she received. “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people,” she wrote, standing firm in her support for the immigrant community.

PopCrave has the deleted video on their socials, “Selena Gomez shares emotional Instagram Story about the deportation of Mexican people:

“All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”

A Harsh Reality for Immigrants in the U.S.

The United States has been grappling with a harsh immigration crackdown since President Trump resumed office. ICE has ramped up deportation efforts, with January 26 marking one of the most significant operations to date, as 956 undocumented individuals were detained in a single day.

Trump’s renewed executive orders signal a return to his stringent immigration policies, sparking widespread fear and uncertainty within immigrant communities. Selena, who is of Mexican descent, has long been vocal about her heritage and the struggles faced by immigrants, making this issue especially personal for her.

Her emotional plea resonated with fans, who praised her for using her platform to shed light on the challenges facing many immigrant families.

Emilia Pérez: Selena’s Award-Winning Turn

On a brighter note, Selena’s professional life continues to flourish with the massive success of her latest film, Emilia Pérez. The musical drama, which tells the story of a cartel lawyer assisting a boss transitioning into a woman, has captivated audiences and critics alike.

Emilia Pérez has swept awards season, earning a remarkable 13 Academy Award nominations—the most for any film this year. With a 76% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has garnered attention not just for its unique premise but for its stellar performances by Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, and Adriana Paz.

Although Selena narrowly missed an Oscar nomination despite receiving a Golden Globe nod, her involvement in the film has solidified her place in Hollywood. Gascón and Saldaña both received Academy Award nominations in the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories, respectively, positioning the film as a major contender for Best Picture at the 2025 Oscars.

Amid her cinematic success, Selena has also been reconnecting with her Disney Channel roots. She recently reprised her role as Alex Russo in the highly anticipated sequel series, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

The first season premiered on Disney Channel earlier this year, with its final batch of episodes set to release on Disney+ on February 28. The new series introduces a fresh generation of wizards while bringing back beloved characters from the original show, including Selena’s Alex Russo.

Selena confirmed her return for the season finale in a heartfelt Instagram post. “NOTHING will ever beat making little kids laugh… thank you @disneywizardsseries for making the little girl in me so happy!! Hope you guys watch!! 💜🪄,” she wrote, sharing behind-the-scenes photos with her co-star David Henrie and the new cast members.

The episode, titled “Nigh Is Now!”, was directed by Andy Fickman and written by the show’s creators Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas. Selena’s cameo in the finale has been a major highlight for fans of the original series, many of whom were excited to see her step back into the role that launched her career.

Selena’s Multifaceted Influence

Despite facing criticism for her tearful plea, Selena Gomez remains steadfast in her advocacy for marginalized communities. Balancing her personal beliefs with her busy career, she continues to shine as both an entertainer and a compassionate voice for change.

Whether she’s breaking records in Hollywood or touching hearts on social media, Selena’s influence is undeniable. Her willingness to speak up, even in the face of adversity, reflects her dedication to using her platform for good. As she moves forward with her projects, Selena Gomez is a reminder of the power of empathy and resilience in the spotlight.

  1. Why do you cry for criminals, Selena? They are rapist, killers, and child molesters. You should be crying for the 300+ immigrant children under the Biden/Harris administration that went missing! Grow up and try to do something to help find them.

  2. Thank goodness Andrea! At least SOMEONE is willing to say the truth, because the authors of this article were certianly not going to mention it! That’s the biggest problem with Hollywood “elites” – they have absolutely NO CLUE what they are talking (or in this case – whining) about!!! If they’d only take the time to inform themselves, they wouldn’t be misleading so many of their impressionable fans!

  3. These are ILLEGAL immigrants, and if they weren’t already criminals before the came here, they became criminals by coming here illegally. I sympathize with the conditions they may have left, and admire their desire for a better life. But it is not our duty nor do we have the ability to have them here yet. This is why we have a legal immigration process they could have followed. Our funding, whether federal or state or local, should be addressing the problems of our citizens and legal immigrants first.

  4. Selena Gomez and her parents were not immigrants. Her grandparents were LEGAL immigrants. She has the opportunity to lead by her grandparents example, and support the legal process the has enabled her fame and fortune.
