Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Area Enters Eighth Month of Unannounced Closure
Construction walls have been a fixture near Savi’s Workshop in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios since last August, and Walt Disney World Resort has yet to say a single word about why.
A Project With No Official Explanation

The barricades surrounding the courtyard next to the build-your-own-lightsaber experience went up eight months ago, but visible activity in the area was minimal for much of that time. Earlier this year, Disney Park guests began spotting new support poles near the merchandise location in Batuu, though their purpose wasn’t immediately clear.
It took until the final days of March for the picture to come into focus.
What Disney Quietly Built

On April 1, WDWNT reported that new shaded canopies had appeared strung between the support poles above the Savi’s Workshop courtyard. The structures extend overhead coverage into sections of the land that existing umbrellas and awnings didn’t reach — a practical upgrade for a stretch of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge that offers guests little natural relief from the Florida heat.
Savi’s Workshop has stayed open throughout the entire construction period. Reservations remain required for the lightsaber-building experience.
Walt Disney World Resort has not commented publicly on the project, confirmed a timeline for removing the construction walls, or explained why a cosmetic addition required eight months of barricaded space.
Bigger Changes on the Horizon

The canopy installation comes ahead of a much larger shift coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Later this year, both Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland Park will transition half of the land into the original Star Wars trilogy era, introducing characters including Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Organa, and Darth Vader to Batuu alongside the existing sequel-era setting.
Disneyland Resort kicks off that change on April 29. Walt Disney World Resort has not announced a corresponding date. Stay tuned to Disney Dining for the latest.
